Forming and Solving Equations when given SIDE LENGTHS and AREA of TWO SHAPES in ALGEBRA

Forming and Solving Equations when given SIDE LENGTHS and AREA of TWO SHAPES in ALGEBRA

This resource is perfect for teaching problem solving style algebra questions (e.g. suited to the new style 1-9 GCSE questions). It is split into two sections, both involve forming equations with 'x' on both sides and solving. Section 1: Students are given two side lengths in algebra (e.g. opposite sides of a rectangle) that are equal. Students then need to form and solve an equation to find the value of 'x'. Section 2: Students are given a rectangle and a triangle. Students need to use the algebraic side lengths to find the area (e.g. side lengths of 2x + 4 and 3 would create an area of 6x + 12) and then need to form and solve an equations to find the value of 'x'. Extension: Students to substitute their values to find the area. This is also a ueful check to see whether they have the correct answer. Answers included in the notes section of the slide.

Circumference of Circles Problems

Circumference of Circles Problems

This GCSE mathematics lesson consolidates calculating the circumference of a circle and the perimeter of circular shapes. Students are encouraged to use a calculator throughout although answers could be left terms of π. Differentiated Learning Objectives All students should be able to calculate the circumference of a circle. Most students should be able to calculate the perimeter or circumference of circular shapes. Some students should be able to calculate the radius or diameter when given the circumference. Check out my blog at mr-mathematics.com for: * Fully planned and differentiated maths lessons for KS3 and GCSE grades 1 - 9. * Schemes of work based on pedagogy and teacher support. Some students should be able to construct circular shapes using the appropriate terminology and investigate basic circle properties.

Circumference of Circles

Circumference of Circles

Students are taken through the process of discovering the relationship between the radius, diameter and circumference of a circle. By drawing three different sized circles, measuring their radii, diameter and circumferences students tabulate their results and look for patterns. Differentiated Learning Objectives All students should be able to derive and use the formulae for the circumference of a circle in terms of its diameter. Most students should be able to derive and use the formulae for the circumference of a circle in terms of its radius. Some students should be able to calculate the radius and diameter of a circle when given its circumference. Area of Triangles - Full GCSE Maths Lesson

Area of Triangles - Full GCSE Maths Lesson

By considering a right angled triangle as half a rectangle the students are guided through deriving the formula for any triangle. The emphasis is placed on recognizing the perpendicular height for isosceles and scalene triangles with different orientations. Differentiated Learning Objectives All students should be able to calculate the area of a right-angled triangle as half of a rectangle. Most students should be able to derive the formula for the area of a triangle and use it. Some students should be able to calculate the area of a compound shape involving rectangles and triangles. Some students should be able to construct circular shapes using the appropriate terminology and investigate basic circle properties.

Area of Rectangles - Full Foundation GCSE Lesson

Area of Rectangles - Full Foundation GCSE Lesson

Students learn how to find the area of a rectangle first by counting, then repeated addition, basic multiplication and later using the formula Area = Length x Width. As learning progresses students are challenged to consider composite rectangular shapes. Differentiated Learning Objectives All students should be able to determine the area of a rectangle by counting the squares inside. Most students should be able to calculate the area of a rectangle by multiplying the length by the width Some students should be able to derive the formula for the area of a rectangle. Find area and perimeter of compound shapes

Find area and perimeter of compound shapes

Differentiated worksheet for KS2 Geometry, Area and Perimeter. Suitable for individuals or pairs. Lower abilities have all the measurements they need so can focus on separating the compound shapes, and calculating areas. Middle and Higher abilities have some missing measures that require the student to find before they can calculate the area. Great to be laminated and added to any morning activity box for children to use before lessons.

Maths: Area (three activities) including LOTC Primary SEND

Maths: Area (three activities) including LOTC Primary SEND

I have worked with Primary and Secondary SEND pupils for over 17 years and have built up a bank of resources to support their learning using visual resources that often lend themselves to being used effectively outside of the classroom. A lot of my resources can be used in places such as supermarkets and come with follow-up classroom-based work. My teaching has consistently been graded as Outstanding throughout my career. This resource comprises of three activities to be taught in succession. The learning objectives focus on teaching area. Pupils are given a number of irregular 2d shapes and have to work out the area for each of them. There is also an activity to be completed in a supermarket which asks pupils to find the area of certain aisles within the supermarket (they would need a trundle wheel for this). I have a vast collection of resources on my hard drive and have uploaded a small proportion of these; if there is anything in particular you are looking for, please contact me and I will probably have it!
