YEAR 12 (MEDIA EDUQAS LINEAR): COMP1, SEC B: RADIO 'LATE NIGHT WOMEN'S HOUR' AN INTRO AND AUDIENCE

LESSON 21-23 IN THE SERIES OF SECTION B LESSONS: AUDIENCE AND CONTEXTS= This Triple lesson begins to look at Late Night Women’s Hour and how the show attracts audiences. I have worked extensively on this series of lessons (6 lessons in total) as Staff, students and feedback fro Media Teachers around the country have specified that this form is especially hard to teach with regards to student engagement and accessibility. This Triple lesson looks at: -Audience profiling -Is structured around two questions form the EDUQAS SAMS materials which students will answer at the end. -Socio/cultural and historical content to BBC and Radio 4. -The mission statement of both the BBC and Radio 4. -A fantastic resource that breaks down listeners of Radio . -A clip on the history of Womens Hour, the show that influenced ‘LNWH’. -An in-depth Article on the selected episode of ‘LNWH’ (Link included in Power Point). -Stuart Hall’s three readings theory. -Issues surrounding an all-female panel on audiences. -Class task working through each of the two SAMS questions (Walking Talking Mock). -Context on the host and how this may attract a viewer. Use of EDUQAS fact sheet breakdown as my students commented that they were finding this particular fact sheet hard to access (Differentiation). Consider how audiences are grouped and categorised by media industries, including by age, gender and social class, as well as by lifestyle and taste. Consider how audiences interpret the media, including how and why audiences may interpret the same media in different ways. THIS LESSON INCLUDES ALL LINKS, PRINTABLE RESOURCE AND PRINTABLE RESOURCE SHEETS WITHIN THE POWER POINT This will be uploaded as a series of lessons on Component 1, Section Band will be part of a group of resources with different theories/terms as headings under each Exam Component. This lesson is therefore Ideal for those wanting to Team Teach or teach Component 1, Sections A and B at differing times. NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at A-Level, as a Two- Year Course. Moreover, each lesson has a task whereby students RAG (Red, Amber, Green) what they have learnt in the lesson against an Examiner checklist (Differentiation, peer assessment). If you liked this resource and found it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you could feedback or rate my resource as I am constantly trying to adapt and refine my resources to improve the learning of my students. Media lessons analysis and creating a short film project.

Media lessons analysis and creating a short film project.

Three lessons for introducing media studies. Analysis of a short film and consideration of media tools. The final lesson requires students to story board thier own short film, using the script provided. This set of lessons was wonderful to teach and I have differentiated it for year 6, up to KS4, although this incarnation was for a low ability year 7 class. These lessons act as a great introduction to considering the use of speech, consideration of props and setting but showcases perspective and camera angles very well. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

Left wing and Right wing in politics and the media

Left wing and Right wing in politics and the media

This resource was designed to introduce the ideas of left/right wing to students at KS3/4 who have heard the terms but don’t really know what they mean. I have used it to provide context for students studying a range of subjects and also used it in tutor/pastoral sessions. It is designed to be impartial, allowing students to discuss what they learn without judgement. Especially useful for students studying English or other humanities. It was originally designed to run over 3-4 lessons but as a lot of the slides can generate discussion you could easily pick and choose and make it fit what time you’ve got.

Blade Runner-Vertigo - writing scaffold - EDUQAS NEW FILM STUDIES

Blade Runner-Vertigo - writing scaffold - EDUQAS NEW FILM STUDIES

Students have struggled to write in depth in timed conditions for the new reformed A-level I produced this as a writing frame/sentence prompt resource for the new reformed Eduqas Alevel in film studies. This one based on questions on ‘distinctive visual styles’ and ‘Masculinity’ - (from the additional AS SAMS produced by the exam board.) I also included are key character profiles/biographies and critical quotes on each one. Has massively improved the quality of student responses.

WJEC AS MEDIA REVISION 2018 HIDDEN FIGURES POSTER ANALYSIS

This resource looks at an AS question for the new specification. It analyses the representation of ethnicity in the film poster for Hidden Figures. It is designed in relation to the key bullet points of the question. It can work well for analysis revision and would work well as a class activity.
