Evolution Assembly or Class Play

Evolution Assembly or Class Play

Evolution Assembly or Class Play Cast of 30 (easily adjustable) Duration: Around 20 minutes without the inclusion of music suggestions. This script has ‘serious factual content’ including a timeline from the beginning of time to the present, but it has plenty of humour including a seriously bad set of jokes at the end! This assembly or class play is based on the Evolution and Inheritance unit of study and has the following coverage: How fossils record changes that living things undergo over millions of years Shared characteristics of parents and offspring Adaptation and evolution of animals and plants in order to survive in different habitats/how characteristics are acquired rather than inherited/natural selection How creatures change over long periods of time Sample Text: (Enter Giant Tortoise slowly) Narrator: (Sarcastically) In your own time! Giant Tortoise: Hey! No need to rush! And it’s not like I have any predators to run from. Narrator: Just as well! Have you had far to come? Giant Tortoise: I live on the Galapagos islands, off the South American coast. Narrator: Whoa! That’s a long way! Giant Tortoise: Not as far as Mr Darwin travelled on his five-year trip! Narrator: So, you met the great man? (Enter Finch) Finch: We certainly did! Took some of us home with him! (Enter Darwin) Darwin: (To Giant Tortoise and Finch) You got me thinking about (To Giant Tortoise) Different patterned shells (To Finch) Different shaped beaks. You see, these creatures were different on each island suggesting they had adapted to their immediate environment. Giant Tortoise & Finch: (Together) Fascinating! (Exit Giant Tortoise & Finch) Narrator: Shall we look at some other examples? Darwin: (Enthusiastically) Certainly! Music 3 Parade of the Charioteers (Enter Stag and Peacock, both strutting proudly across stage) Stag: Look at my fine antlers! (Looks at audience) Anyone want to take me on? Peacock: Huh! No need for any violence! Just look at my magnificent display (opens tail to full effect). Who could not be impressed with me? Narrator: (Thoughtfully) Hmm. They are rather winning features Stag: It’s called ‘survival of the fittest’! Peacock: You’ve gotta have what it takes you know!

KS2 Pond and Woodland Outdoor Learning Curriculum

KS2 Pond and Woodland Outdoor Learning Curriculum

Key Stage 2 Pond and Woodland Outdoor Learning Curriculum This booklet has been designed in line with the KS2 Primary National Curriculum for teachers to take their pupil’s learning outdoors. The creative lesson ideas and activities have been carefully created and some have been adapted from suitable sources, all of which have been credited at the end of the document. The lessons cover a variety of subjects such as English, Maths, Science, Art, Computing, Religious Education and Geography in order to fully embed outdoor learning across the curriculum. For each lesson idea, the corresponding Primary National Curriculum objectives have been clearly stated for ease of use. This booklet was originally created specifically for a Junior School’s pond and woodland area, however, after receiving a lot of interest on our Twitter page, we have decided to publish this resource in order to inspire others to take teaching outdoors! We hope that this booklet is useful to you and would greatly appreciate a review! #projectpond

Parts of a Flower. Pollination and Fertilisation Lesson

Parts of a Flower. Pollination and Fertilisation Lesson

KS2 Science PowerPoint Lesson and worksheets on parts of a flower, pollination and fertilisation. This is the fourth lesson in a series of Year 3 Science lessons on Plants. Corresponds to the Year 3 Science statutory requirements: explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal. Can also be used in Year 5 : describe the life process of reproduction in some plants and animals. 17 pages including the front cover and Hoppy Times terms and conditions. In this lesson, students learn about the main parts of a flower (petals, sepals, pistil, stigma with anthers, etc.) and their functions. This is an opportunity for the students to learn about the flower parts as they dissect them. I recommend using daffodils, lillies or tulips. A couple of paper flowers are also included for cutting out if live flowers are not available. Students also learn about the processes of pollination and fertilisation. The PowerPoint is provided with explanations, video links, interactive activities and a plenary. Also included are differentiated dissection mats - the idea is for the student to remove the flower parts and put them in correct places on the mat. They can then be secured by sticky back plastic or tape. Bonus - Flower Parts Poster and 3 labelling worksheets (differentiated). The PowerPoint is editable, making it easier to customise and tailor to the needs of your class. HoppyTimes

Reading Comprehension, garden themed reading for junior school

Reading Comprehension, garden themed reading for junior school

This task is focused towards competent year prep to year 1 readers. It is a reading task that is based on the garden or How things work theme. The students would read this passage, trace over the words to improve their handwriting and then draw a picture of Spark and the relevant above sentence. After drawing the pictures and writing the story the students can then answer the comprehension questions, I have included a literal, an inferential and some questions that focus on the PYP profile and learner attitudes to allow the students to evaluate their learning from this passage. This task would take about 30 minutes to complete and encourages students to show their comprehension of the text through both pictures and words.

Outdoor science: keyword scavenger hunt

Outdoor science: keyword scavenger hunt

This lesson developed by accident when I asked the children to find there own seeds for a lesson on looking at seeds. They came back with all parts of the plant, showing me how little knowledge they had of the parts of a plant when exposed to the choice of the outside world. Some great ideas. Part of a series.
