Practical Science: Reaction Rates and Fair Tests with Bottle Rockets KS2

Practical Science: Reaction Rates and Fair Tests with Bottle Rockets KS2

This resource was developed with Royal Society of Chemistry funding. Its original aim was to support Cub Scout leaders with the Scientist badge. However, it also works really well with KS2 pupils in school. The leaders notes contain a detailed plan for running the activity in class. It is recommended that you read these through and have a test run before doing this is school. You will also need to complete your own Risk Assessment. Its a really exciting hands-on experiment which pupils will be desperate to manipulate for themselves! Pupils will learn about a fair test, reaction rates, states of matter, forces

Science: Exploring Chemistry in SEND Schools

Science: Exploring Chemistry in SEND Schools

Six hands-on sensory chemistry lessons for pupils with special needs. Funded by the Royal Society of Chemistry Outreach Fund. These lessons have been developed by an award-winning science specialist, side-by-side with pupils and staff in KS2 and KS3 classes at mixed ability special needs schools. They contain differentiation for use within the class and enough information to give confidence even if you are not scientifically trained. The differentiated nature of the lessons also makes them ideal for use in small mainstream schools with mixed key stage classes. Each lesson plan includes Aims, key vocabulary, shopping list, activity "script"

Year 2 - Science lesson - Forces - Egg drop experiment

Year 2 - Science lesson - Forces - Egg drop experiment

This Year 2 lesson pack looks into 'forces', 'materials' and is cross-curricular with Design and Technology. The children will learn about forces (in particular air resistance) and learn about the force that the ground exerts that causes the egg to break. The children then need to design and wrap the egg in a protective packaging to see which materials are better at doing so.
