Maths Mat KS2 (7 - 11 year olds)

Maths Mat KS2 (7 - 11 year olds)

I’ve adapted some of the maths mats on this site to make a KS2 mat which could be used in a variety of ways in the classroom. The mat is double sided and would be a great resource laminated. The topics include: 100 square, multiplication grid, 2D and 3D shapes, Multiplying and Dividing by 10, 100 and 1000, Area and Perimeter, Place Value, Number Line, Blank Numberline, Fractions, decimals and percentages and Measurements. Topics also inlcuded: counting and understanding.

I made this resource so that the SEN children whom I work with, could have a resource to refer to when they are working in class. It is suitable for all KS2 children.

Perimeter and Area investigation in real life context. End of unit D1 Year 6

Perimeter and Area investigation in real life context. End of unit D1 Year 6

I have tried to link perimeter and area to real life contexts. I used images from Goggle earth and the measurement tool - all the building measurements are accurate (they have been rounded). The investigation involves the children calculating using real measurements and real prices the costs of re turfing the Arsenal stadium , decking the court yard at Buckingham Palace and knocking down the Houses of Parliament to make a car park to solve the congestion probs in London. I showed the the images on Google Earth and they loved flying from one place to the other. I hope this is useful to someone

Area and Perimeter problem to solve

Area and Perimeter problem to solve

Lesson plan, LSA notes, IWB lesson, Walt and Wilf. Using a real life problem find rectangles that have the same area but different perimeters. Unless the children have studied the concepts it may need to be tackled over a couple of lessons. Lots of items to move to show the answers. The four folders go together to form 1 complete lesson. I really enjoyed this work and so did the children. Hope you do to. This is the first thing I have put on here Please leave me a rating who knows it may make me brave enough to share some other items. Thanks

Misconceptions in Maths

Misconceptions in Maths

How to diagnose, clear and prevent them with a Counting Frame. Make your own counting frame at a cost of £ 1.50 from an old cd case, elastic string and pony beads. Some children's trouble with 'rounding' might stem from trying to count jumps on a number track or a 100 square: On a number line, the middle between 0 and 10 is exactly 5. On a number track, the five is to the left of the middle. That makes it difficult to see the reason behind rounding.
