Geometry Wordsearch Puzzle Sheet Keywords Settler Starter Cover Lesson Maths Shape Measure

Geometry Wordsearch Puzzle Sheet Keywords Settler Starter Cover Lesson Maths Shape Measure

Wordsearch Puzzle sheet on the theme of ‘Geometry’. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught. The repetition of the word over and over as they look for the word is useful in remembering the terms. Often the students will pick up on things that you would not normally expect!

Standard Form Reasoning Tasks

Standard Form Reasoning Tasks

Several tasks all based an Edexcel GCSE question (from the specimen papers) about standard form and substitution. These tasks are designed to improve students’ mathematical reasoning and were created as part of the Mathematical Reasoning at GCSE project run by Cambridge Maths Hub. The tasks vary in difficulty, and include work on ratio, surface area and volume of spheres, units of compound measures, density and direct/inverse proportion. They are not intended to be used all together; just pick and choose one or two suitable ones for your class. The Venn diagram task is an excellent idea I swiped from the amazing Mr Barton. If you’re after a similar task that focuses more explicitly on surface area, volume and density, you might like https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/density-and-volume-reasoning-tasks-11837600. Please consider leaving some feedback. I’d be really interested to hear which tasks you chose and how you used them!

Speed and Fuel Economy Reasoning Tasks

Speed and Fuel Economy Reasoning Tasks

Several tasks all based on a WJEC Eduqas GCSE question about average speed and petrol costs. These tasks are designed to improve students’ mathematical reasoning and were created as part of the Mathematical Reasoning at GCSE project run by Cambridge Maths Hub. The tasks vary in difficulty, and include work on proportional reasoning (direct and inverse), metric to imperial unit conversions, units of time conversions, average speed and fuel economy. They are not intended to be used all together; just pick and choose one or two suitable ones for your class. Thanks to JustMaths for the exam question by topic packs where I found the original question. If you’d like to see some similar tasks on other compound measures, take a look at this resource about surface gravity (using standard form) https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/standard-form-reasoning-tasks-11839225 or this resource about density https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/density-and-volume-reasoning-tasks-11837600 All feedback very welcome. I’d be really interested to hear which tasks you chose and how you used them!
