This resource has been created with hard to reach young people in mind. These resources have been used at The Island Project as part of vocational learning as a way of engaging young people who struggled with ADHD, Autism, SEMH and challenging behaviour. Most learners who attend our project are also struggling academically and therefore these materials are designed to allow tutors to scale the difficultly as desired. This bundle contains 6 project plans and is aimed at giving young people the opportunity of learning about Ancient Egypt in a less academic way through more hands on activities using arts and crafts, social play, woodwork, Lego and more. This range of sessions was delivered over a 6 week half term, each session being focused on per week.

The course is designed in a way that the film can be periodically stopped and discussed and pupils are able to engage in discussions and debates about the content. The pupil sheets are there to help guide discussion but it is up to the teacher’s professional judgement where the discussion may go. This guide is to help facilitate this discussion. The English Civil War: Who was Oliver Cromwell?

This lesson aims to explore the character of Oliver Cromwell. Did he set out to kill the King from the start and make himself a despot or did circumstances dictate that this was his only option? Moreover, with his puritanical ideas, did he make England and the Commonwealth a better place for it, or was it exclusive only to the minority? This will ultimately be down to the students’ own judgement as they plot his actions on a grid. Analysis of video evidence also helps to track his ideas and personality and gives the students ideas for writing his obituary and question why his burial place in Westminster Abbey bears the inscription 1658-1661. The resource comes in PDF and Powerpoint formats if there is a wish to adapt and change. Victorian Crime and Jack the Ripper ENTIRE SCHEME and RESOURCES

This scheme of work was originally made for a SEN group but has since been differentiated for KS3 and taught at year 8 and year 9 to a range of abilities. Though it suits lower to mid for some activities, most lessons are easily adaptable to suit a higher ability class - particularly the Jack the Ripper case file section at the end. It has lessons on the history of Victorian Crime and Punishment, covering topics such as the Queen, the bloody code, Sweeney Todd (truth/fiction), Robert Peel, and the development of new detection methods (such as: finger prints and mugshots). Some a bit creepy or gory, so know your audience! Finally at the end is a case study of Jack the Ripper, which uses a range of original sources and offers students the chance to deduce who they think Jack was based on several possible suspects. This is themed around Sherlock Holmes for fun. There are over 200 slides and all worksheets are included. This has been a popular unit for several years at my school. There are notes on how to apply each worksheet and most slides have explanations. I’ve spent a long time developing this and the vast majority is my own work - I hope you and your students enjoy it!
