Mechanics: Lift Problems and Pulley Problems (MWB activity)

Mechanics: Lift Problems and Pulley Problems (MWB activity)

A mini-whiteboard activity where students are asked to draw several force diagrams for a single situation involving connected particles (in this case, a man in a lift). It is something my students have struggled with in the past, and I couldn’t find much else online, so I created this so that students can become more confident with this topic. Contains a similar MWB quiz for pulleys. Both resources worked really well as revision/consolidation tools.

KS3 Chemistry, Science Skills; Bloodhound SSC Testing the Fuel Systems of a 1000mph Car.

KS3 Chemistry, Science Skills; Bloodhound SSC Testing the Fuel Systems of a 1000mph Car.

3 minute video explaining how the fuel systems of Bloodhound SSC are regulated to control the rate of combustion, considering the ‘sloshing’ of the fuel in the tank as it accelerates up to 1000mph and back… The BLOODHOUND Team are at Newquay Airport to test the Fuel Systems for the EJ200 Jet Engine - they need to simulate the G forces the jet fuel will face at 1000mph by tilting the lower chassis to an angle of 60 degrees. Find out how they got on in this episode of Cisco BLOODHOUND TV. The BLOODHOUND Project is not only about building a car to go 1,000mph, but it is also a perfect vehicle for education of STEM subjects. Over the life of this project we’ve been able to inspire over 2 million young people! AQA Mechanics 2 Past paper questions organised by topic

AQA Mechanics 2 Past paper questions organised by topic

I have put this together for my students. I wanted regular practice and exposure to exam questions and also wanted to have something for my more able students to get their teeth into, hence the killer question(s) at the back of each homework sheet. We refer to the revision poster during our teaching, paying particular attention to the formulae and checklist associated with each topic. I give out the individual worksheets as homework to gauge their understanding and will give them the full booklet to aid their revision in the Summer term. Let me know how you intend to use it and how well received it has been please, I'm always keen to hear from others. Have you added to/amended my checklist? Please inform me through twitter, @billyads_47

Circuit Arcade

Circuit Arcade

In this project students gain an understanding of the engineering design process by building a cardboard arcade game where winning or losing completes an electrical circuit. Students will present their arcade game to an audience of middle school or elementary school students. This project was developed by Allen Distinguished Educators Rob Rambach and Patrick Dempsey. SUBJECTS: • Science — electrical circuits, Newton’s Laws • Engineering Design— diagrams, prototyping, user feedback • Social Studies—marketing OUTCOMES: Students will be able to: • Construct a working electrical circuit. • Explain how electrons move through their circuit. • Learn from failure. • Design and build an arcade game incorporating the circuit for a specific audience. • Explain force and motion concepts that relate to their game. • Effectively use the engineering design process. ACADEMIC STANDARDS: • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.1 • CCSS.ELA-LITERCY.SL.8.1.A • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.1.B • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.5 • CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.SL.8.6 • MS-PS2-3 • MS-PS3-1 • MS-PS3-2 • MS-PS3-5 • MS-ETS1-1 • MS-ETS1-2 • MS-ETS1-3 • MS-ETS1-4

M1 Revision Clock

M1 Revision Clock

This is a revision activity for Edexcel M1 based on the ideas shared on Jo Morgan's brilliant website http://www.resourceaholic.com/. This was originally shared here http://justmaths.co.uk/2015/10/18/keeping-time/. This activity could be used to help improve students' timing by giving them 5 minutes for each of the 12 questions, to improve memory, or simply to produce a visual revision resource. Each student should be given an A3 copy of the clock with a set of questions. Answers are provided.
