And I love coffee breaks ☕️. Coffee is just great. Over the years I have realized how much my students benefit most from lessons where THEY are the leaders, where THEY are encouraged to be proactive and learn from each other. Handing over the reins to my students doesn’t make me weaker as a teacher. It makes them responsible for their own learning and is highly motivating. I don’t want my students to be sailors. I want them to be CAPTAINS! (And I want coffee!) My teaching resources are all designed to enable students to USE the language. This is why you will always find the communicative approach in my resources - even simple crosswords come with ideas for speaking activities. All of my resources have been tested in class and will be updated regularly. Please rate my resources to help me build a reputation among millions of resources. GERMAN TELLING TIME DOMINOES #1

GERMAN TELLING TIME DOMINOES #1

These telling time dominoes games are really popular with students - they’re a great alternative to more traditional ‘drilling’ activities, and help students become more independent in their learning. They’re really ideal for pair and small-group work / centers. The focus in on o’clock, half past (which can be a bit tricky in GERMAN!), quarter to and quarter past the hour. There are 3 differentiated challenges: clock times in order, with the time phrase first; clock times in topsy-turvy order, also with the time phrase first and finally, clock times in topsy-turvy order, but with the clock face first. The background design is different on each challenge, so students can easily identify which challenge they’re working on. I’ve included a reference booklet, which my students always find helpful as a ‘forever’ reference resource, and particularly when they’re learning how to tell time. There are two GERMAN-ENGLISH lists - the first with all the time phrases in order and the second corresponding to the second challenge, with all the time phrases in topsyy-turvy order. The resource consists of three, non-editable files in a zipped format: dominoes games x 3 challenge levels reference booklet Although it’s time-consuming, laminate the dominoes if you can, as they’re easier to play with, and will last for a very long time! The TERMS OF USE explain the product license: the games are copyright, and for single-teacher / purchaser / classroom use only. VIELEN DANK UND VIEL SPAß BEIM SPIELEN!

Sets 3 & 4 focus on 25 high-frequency separable verbs, in both the present and the perfect tense. Students often find these quite tricky, but will certainly be able to get to grips with the structure of questions and sentences with regular practice. The prompt cards also feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in the beginning and more intermediate stages of their GERMAN learning, including modal verbs, word order, case and prepositions governed by the accusative and dative. The REFERENCE BOOKLETS include all the questions and answers written out in full in GERMAN. Students find these very useful learning support resources and they’re also handy whole-group pronunciation practice and reading-out loud resources. Encourage students to use the NOTES AND NEXT STEPS template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning. There is also an alphabetical verb reference list in the Sets 3 & 4 workbooks. The QUESTION AND ANSWER WRITING TEMPLATES give students the opportunity to apply their GERMAN very practically, as they create both questions and answers for each other. This is a great team activity too. You can also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with. The resource consists of eight non-editable files in a zipped format The sets are also available individually if you prefer, each priced at $4.00. German Easter and Christmas Venn diagram cards

German Easter/Spring colour by maths

A colour by number but with a difference - colour by maths - ideal for Year 7 or for primary. There are both Easter sheets and some srpring based ones too. I’ve used some lovely sheets from another person and converted them into German. A great way to practice colours but also to incooperate numeracy.

Die Schule - end of topic sheet

Mixed activity sheet on school in German, includes school subjects, uniform clothes. There’s also numeracy in here - a work out the number activity, understand the times and put them on the clock faces and an ordinals exercise. Ideal as either end of topic homework or classwork. I tend to use these when my students are doing their speaking assessment - they get it once they’ve been tested to keep them occupied while I assess the others.

BACK TO SCHOOL GERMAN NUMBERS 1-20 POSTERS

BACK TO SCHOOL GERMAN NUMBERS 1-20 POSTERS

My beginning learners of GERMAN really enjoy seeing a GERMAN-themed display in the classroom, particularly at the beginning of the new school year! These posters create an instant introduction to GERMAN numbers 1-20, and give your learning environment a great GERMAN look and feel. It’s good for students to see GERMAN as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. The posters work equally well as flashcards. Using flashcards to introduce and practice language is a really successful directed teaching and learning activity. They help students familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of GERMAN words, how those are represented in the written form, giving them the opportunity to begin to link spelling with sound in GERMAN. The posters work well with older students in their first GERMAN lessons too! I’ve also included a B&W version if you prefer not to print in color. GERMAN CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES

GERMAN CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCHES

PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING LANGUAGE SKILLS IN GERMAN WITH A REALLY FESTIVE FEEL! Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in GERMAN, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 33 GERMAN CHRISTMAS WORDS, which will also help to develop students’ awareness of some GERMAN Christmas traditions and figures, such as Saint Nicholas and Knecht Ruprecht. There are 5 GERMAN to ENGLISH grids, where students are prompted with the GERMAN words, and look for them in GERMAN in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an ENGLISH word list that they have to complete, really putting their knowledge to the test! There are also 5 ENGLISH to GERMAN grids, where the prompt words are given in ENGLISH, and learners have to find the GERMAN equivalent in the grid. For additional consolidation and practice in writing and spelling in GERMAN, they also complete the GERMAN word list on each page. Students can tell in which direction the words are written by looking at the arrow key on each grid. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right, facilitating learner engagement with the activity. I’ve included a reference sheet in both GERMAN and English - print double-sided, and either laminate it to share around small groups of students, or give one to each student to stick into their learning workbooks as a general reference resource. Students will have to look carefully at some of the words they’re looking for, as they may appear slightly differently - for example, they may have to find ‘CANDLE’ and work out what that is in GERMAN - only the prompt DIE ADVENTSKERZE appears in the reference list. Use as starters, refreshers, plenaries or fun-time fillers at any time during the CHRISTMAS season. Students do like the challenge of working their way through a number of grids on one go! There are two versions of the word searches and keys - either with a color or B&W background — you may prefer to print in B&W to keep prep costs down. Laminate the answer keys if you can - they’ll last for many CHRISTMASTIMES to come! The resource consists of six non-editable files. GAMES WITH GOALS! LOTS OF FESTIVE FUN WITH THESE GERMAN CHRISTMAS BINGO GAMES! BINGO really is an ideal activity for developing listening, speaking, reading and writing/spelling skills. This pack includes 10 non-editable files in a zipped format: 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students select grids randomly from the bowl. Colour and B&W. 40 GERMAN word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). Colour & B&W. 40 English word-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages). Colour & B&W. 4 12-square grid template for students to create their own word or picture grids for each other. B&W. 10 jumbo picture-only 24-square grids. Colour & B&W. 1 GERMAN and 1 English calling card, with all the words written in full These games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game. GET THE MOST OUT OF CHRISTMAS BINGO! Before playing, read all the words out loud in GERMAN several times, with students repeating carefully - this not only helps students develop their GERMAN pronunciation, but also introduces them to words they may not actually know. There are some nice long words to encourage students to look very closely! Students can also have their own calling card to read out loud from, one for a small group of students is sufficient - this will help them to link sound and spelling in GERMAN. The words focus on definite and indefinite article, plural and singular, masculine, feminine and neuter, which maximises opportunity to practise grammatical concepts too. Give students a little time to have a quick look over their grids first. Create bingo teams, each with a Christmas team name - playing competitively in teams keeps up a lively pace! For each game, select a different Christmas word as the ‘winning word’ for students to call out when they win the game. Students must recite all the words in their grids to check that they have actually won - also giving another opportunity for practising language. As you call out words in random order, remember to tick them on your calling card so that you can check the winners’ words - you’ll be able to use the same calling card for multiple games. Let students be the bingo caller too. Call out GERMAN words for GERMAN grids, GERMAN words for English grids, and English words for GERMAN grids to vary the challenge. Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully. VIELEN DANK UND FROHE WEIHNACHTEN!

GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 TASK CARDS

GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 TASK CARDS

**A GREAT ACTIVITY FOR ENGAGING WITH GERMAN, PERFECT FOR DEVELOPING GERMAN LANGUAGE SKILLS AS WELL AS PRACTICING AND REVISING GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 - 36 DIFFERENTIATED TASK CARDS WITH RECORDING SHEET AND FULL ANSWER KEY ** GERMAN NUMBERS 0-31 TASK CARDS really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of GERMAN numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling numbers in GERMAN. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on Numbers 0-31, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in GERMAN, but also to enjoy working with GERMAN, and to feel confident about doing so. The questions range in complexity and challenge, and are great for honing numeracy skills too - especially if calculators are not allowed! The resource comprises the following 3 files: Set of 36 cards, 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Depending on how long you want the activity to last for, choose a particular number of cards per small group of students, and place them in a tin, bowl or small box so that students can easily select a card, and then replace at the end of the activity. You can simply place all the cards in the bowl/box and let students work their way through, either in a single lesson, or across a series of lessons - I’ve found 15-20 minutes across several lessons can work really well. Students do need to remember to file their recording sheets carefully! 2-page answer recording sheet. Best printed double-sided. 2-page answer key, again best printed double-sided, and laminated for longevity. One answer key for each small group is sufficient. Students find this reference sheet really useful - download it for free here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/german-numbers-0-31-reference-sheet-11759027 Please read the TERMS OF USE carefully - this resource is copyright, and for single-teacher/purchaser use only. Ich wohne in Deutschland - chapter 3 kapitel 1 (echo express) - Harry Potter themed

This is a whole lesson Power Point by the end of which pupils should be able to answer two questions: Woher kommst du?/ Wo wohnst du?- so it is about saying where you come from and in which country you live. A lot o fun activities, some of them differentiated for different levels of ability, including a snakes and ladders game on countries adapted from one I found on TES.
