My mini reviews

My mini reviews

A simple but effective way of assessing whether or not your students have grasped a topic. I have found that sometimes my class complete an assessment and it turns out none of them fully understood one of the skills on the test! But by this point it is difficult to go back and reteach this or I don’t have the time. Especially if we teach a 6 week long topic (which we do in year 7 and 8 as we follow maths mastery). This is a quick way to check they have understood - I usually do it as plenary to the lesson a starter the next lesson. I feel a plenary works better because it informs my planning for the next lesson. I give all the class the same question testing a specific skill. I collect them in before students stick them into their books, making them very quick to mark. I mark the question and give them specific maths focused feedback at the bottom. I also award stamps based on their effort (usually how much working out they showed and how clear their answer is). Then hand them back the next lesson for students to stick into their books. This is an ongoing bank that I am adding to as I teach different topics so I will add more as I go - but you can see they’re easy to create yourself! Enjoy!
