Stress: Self-Belief Survey

Stress: Self-Belief Survey

Teaching is a challenging profession. It needs high levels of emotional and sometimes physical input. This is part of the explanation why it can be therefore so rewarding. However, prolonged exposure to this atmosphere can escort people to the condition we call stress– fundamentally a negative state that can be defined as ‘an assault on self’. Stress is a negative feeling state which has both psychological and physical components. The scale on the self-belief survey is an sign of the amount to which individuals feel they can accomplish a range of professional goals. Research has shown that those people with a higher than justified self-belief tend to cope better than those with realistic or low levels of self-effectiveness. High scores on questions 1-3, 5 and 7-10 and low scores on 4, 6, 11 indicate upbeat self-beliefs (and vice versa). Look through the responses you have received from your department and allow for additional responses specific to the feedback received, and to your particular school or department. Based on this feedback, the following causes of stress are most likely to be identified; • Lack of ownership of key decisions. • Limited control over professional development. • Not being valued by students or leaders. • Poor health. • Personal circumstances.

Stress: Lifestyle Survey

Stress: Lifestyle Survey

It is worth recognising the importance that our lifestyle has on our ability to cope with pressure, particularly if we have made recent changes to it. Frequently, those parts of our life which provide a balance to work activities become eroded because of perceived additional demands from our chosen occupation equally, we can find ourselves over-doing or under-doing an activity which has a direct relationship to health or physical image. Drinking, smoking, exercise and diet are obvious factors here. You and/or staff in your department should fill in the form and monitor any changes over time to support staff. This survey considers some key aspects of lifestyle.

CPD Workshop Activity: Team Review

CPD Workshop Activity: Team Review

Team Review Workshop is an activity ready-made for any team meeting. You can run in virtually any situation. It helps you build a shared understanding within a team about what’s working well, areas in need of improvement and areas of opportunity. It’s a great way to get a team ready to do some positive action planning. There’s very little facilitation involved as it’s easy for people to grasp what they have to do and why they’re doing it. It’s transparent, democratic and a great stimulator of conversation within the group. Dotmocracy, the method used for prioritization of the resulting themes, is a popular technique for voting within groups using dot stickers. It’s also known as “dot-voting”, “multi-voting” or “voting with dots”.

Stop Asking and Start Telling: How To Get Kids To Do What They Are Told To Do With a Good Attitude

Stop Asking and Start Telling: How To Get Kids To Do What They Are Told To Do With a Good Attitude

STOP asking and Start Telling. If you want students to comply you have to stop giving choices and tell students exactly what you want them to do. Choices are something we all want and should be offered at times, but when there is a specific behavior you that you want your students to exhibit allowing choice only promotes confusion on the part of the students and frustration for the teacher. Compliance before choice is something that all students should understand. Students can’t say and do what they want when they want to do it. This 13 page guide provides instructions on how to do it with illustrations from the authors life and provides the language that will empower the teacher and create a positive school climate.

Still Looking For A Teaching Job? Follow This Checklist

Still Looking For A Teaching Job? Follow This Checklist

Teaching is the dream profession of many young graduates. It gives them a chance to be heard and share their knowledge with others. It’s a great profession for those who have leadership skills and want to be social. If you have applied to a number of teaching positions and still haven’t become successful, here’s a checklist for you: Consider moving Instead of limiting your job search to your neighboring schools and colleges, send the applications to big schools even if they are far away. If you get selected, you can always move to another city. After all, a job at a premiere college or school will be a great move for your career. Get your paperwork ready Make sure you have your resume, cover letter, and other documents ready. Proofread your resume several times to make sure it does not have any mistakes. Be available on social networks Your presence on social media networks like LinkedIn can help you build connections. If you are connected to administrators from colleges and schools, there are chances that they will prefer you over others when it’s time to hire. Attend job fairs Attend the job fairs held at your alma mater along with those at the neighboring colleges and universities. You have better chances of being selected at your alma mater than the others. Prepare for the interview There are some questions that are asked frequently. For example, “what can you bring to this school” and “how do you plan to influence the students”. Come up with witty and professional answers for these questions. Share vignettes Be open during the interview and share some positive vignettes about your previous experiences. These could include student achievements, classroom management, and unique teaching methodologies that you follow. Follow-up Sometimes the college or school might take extra time in hiring. If you follow up using emails, there are higher chances of you being hired. When you email them, state again that you would love to work with them. Stay positive It’s a tough economy but teaching positions keep opening every now and then in various schools and colleges. Don’t give up hope and you’ll soon bag a great teaching job. That’s it for now Busy Educator. Until next time, Talk to each other, support each other, take care of each other.’ Marjan

Adding Supporting Documents To Your Resume While Applying Here's How

Adding Supporting Documents to Your Resume While Applying – Here’s How When you apply for a job, your employer might be looking for something extra apart from the standard resume and cover letter. The extra documents are known as supporting documentation and can include a number of things such as scanned copies of certificates and letters of recommendation. While many employers leave the documentation part for the interview process, some of them may specify in the job description that they want to see them with the application.

Sequencing skills using iPads

Sequencing skills using iPads

This resource is aimed at teachers using iPads with students to provide ideas and inspiration for iPad activities in class. It’s suitable for all levels of teaching experience and digital skill, from new starters to experienced digital leaders. It can also be used as a general CPD resource for developing teaching skills, as the ideas suggested are not reliant on digital devices. Sequencing is an important thinking skill for students to develop. The first page of the resource provides the rationale for sequencing as a teaching concept and ideas to try out with suggested apps, along with differentiated levels of challenge for students to practise this skill. We’ve linked iOS apps but the ideas are adaptable to non-iOS / BYOD digital classrooms too. The second page provides some subject-specific ideas for lesson activities (our apologies if we’ve missed out your subject area!). We hope you’ll find some iPad teaching & learning inspiration here! About us: we’re developing a classroom app, Sparkjar, for use in iPad schools. We’ve made these free resources because we want to give something back to teachers whilst we raise the profile of Sparkjar. We hope you find them useful as part of your iPad teaching toolkit. There’s a link to our website in the resource - if you want to check us out, please do.
