I often have a dixie cup of baby oil on hand along with a que tip. Students apply a small dab of oil in areas that they want opaque. Edgar Degas and Claude Monet were the driving force behind the French Impressionists. This single hand out art sheet is from one of his series of horse racing. Students are encourage to read the bio information and apply the art vocabulary word at the bottom of the page. This lesson is designed to be used with color pencils. I encourage students to apply a dawb of baby oil using a que-tip after they have applied their color. This then allows for the effect of transforming the color to appear more impressionistic as it blends into the paper. I always us a heavy stock paper with the Meet The Master’s Series because it allows more depth of color to be applied and removed to capture the soft blending of color.
