This way of tracking progress has been invaluable in guiding the revision of my students, focusing them on the specific areas for their development. Surface area and the rate of reaction

An engaging lesson presentation (23 slides) and accompanying differentiated worksheets that look at how surface area affects the rate of reaction. The lesson begins by testing the student's mathematical skills by having to work out the surface area of a cube. Guides are used at all times to show how this is done for those who find it difficult. The students will also recall how to calculate volume. Moving forwards, students will apply this knowledge to the situation when the cube has been cut up into smaller pieces and they will see how this increases the surface area and the surface area to volume ratio. They are challenged to explain how this leads to more collisions and therefore affects the rate of reaction. The main question section is differentiated so that all abilities can access the work.
