Energy Output of Burning Different Fuels

Structured activity that involves determining the Energy Output of Burning Different Fuels. Try determining the energy output of burning different fuels and graphing the results. Check the range fuels used. I suggest using a range of fuels of an increasing number of carbon atoms - however this can be dangerous! You know your pupils – being careful is better than being sorry. Remember - Health and Safety is the responsibility of the teacher in charge of the activity. Consult with your laboratory technician and try the experiment before allowing the pupils to attempt the experiment. You know your pupils best. Free starter and plenary activities are provided. Extra sheets of pupil write on sheets are provided. Activity is structured allowing projection of sheets onto Interactive White Board to allow collation of class results and class discussion. A suggested marking schedule is also provided , along with Grading and Feedback Sheets. I would suggest putting the pupils into 'marking pairs' and letting them grade each others work and give feedback. Then cast an eye over the work to check it has been done correctly. This activity teaches the pupils how to interpret a marking matrix and make judgements as to what is required to achieve each grade. It takes patience giving the pupils practice carrying out his activity, but will ultimately result in higher pupil achievement and easier marking for you.
