Marking feedback sheets

Marking feedback sheets

I’ve experimented with many different marking strategies to find which is the most effective and efficient. In my opinion, this is the best way to mark exercise books. This is how you use them: Print off the relevant marking sheet for the topic that you’ve taught Get students to stick them in their exercise books Mark student work and simply tick the relevant WWW and EBI Give students reflection time to complete the ‘Pupil response to marking feedback’ section. Go around the class and mark their responses – this does not take long and students are big fans of these sheets as I mark their extended answers. The advantages of using these sheets are: • It saves time. You can mark a class set of books in 1 hour. You no longer have to write out the same WWW or EBI again and again • Each WWW and EBI section is differentiated, so that all abilities are catered for • If you teach EAL students, run the document through an online translator and give them both the English copy and the one in their language • It demonstrates formative assessment, as students are reflecting on your marking • The GCSE ones that I’ve made contain past paper AQA Chemistry extended writing exam questions, which students often find tricky • You can adapt them for any subject
