Looks at material classification, material properties, finishes, some manufacturing and stock forms. Looks into wood, metal, plastic, manufactured boards, composites, smart materials, new materials and textiles. Will be using with the new GCSE particularly for students to research materials and their properties. They will make notes of these.

year 8, nine week long textiles project based on graffiti style

A week by week project building up a range of textiles skills (e.g.tie dye, surface embellishment, hemming, bias binding, CAD /CAM techniques). Pupils are set a range of tasks to complete and then work together to create either a wall hanging or strip of bunting using their skills. Homework tasks and assessment tasks are included. It is linked to the new technical awards for fashion and textiles and includes research into job roles. There are skills based extension tasks for the more able.
