#### History of the metric system

A presentation to get pupils thinking a about the origins of the metric system. There’s quite a lot of information in there, but I think its interesting so I’m going to make my pupils look at it! There are no worksheets or ‘usual’ metric questions, but I’ve put some follow up questions and possible activities in the comments boxes on each slide. Please let me know if you have any better ideas as mine are a bit lame. Most of the information is taken from Wikipedia so please let me know if you see any innacuracies!

#### Metric Units card Sorts

A variety of card sorts based on the card sorts in Nrich. I have changed the contexts to be familiar for our students. I have also reduced the content so they are less over-whelming.

#### Units of Measure Topic Test

Simple topic test for Units of Measure. Suitable for lower ability KS2/KS3, or SEN at KS3/KS4.

Fun and engaging class game based on the old TV show Blockbusters, with questions on how to read values from a scale. Split the class into two teams, blue and white. The blue team must try to create a connected blue line from left to right, the white team must try to do the same from top to bottom. Click on the letters to link to the questions, if the answering team gets it right then click “Game board” to get back to the start, and click on the appropriate colour for that team to turn the tile blue or white.

The worksheet file for my lesson on reading values from a scale, including harder worded questions to challenge the higher end of the class.

NOTE - For some reason the preview for the powerpoint lesson plan seems to show the formatting weirdly (some textboxes look too small etc.), however when I download it and open the file it looks just as it should. Complete lesson on teaching pupils to take readings from scales (including decimals), with both Powerpoint and SMART Notebook versions. Fully differentiated worksheet included, with a slide of extra challenging questions to display on the board and stretch the upper end of the class. Blockbusters game included as an alternative activity. I have broken down the process of reading the scales quite a lot, you may wish to delete that part from the example slides and set it out yourself if you have your own preferred way of teaching it. I would also recommend checking to see if the starter questions need adjusting for your class, though I have tried to keep them quite generalised.

#### Geometry: Differentiated WORKSHEET on Frustums

This is a worksheet on the different types of questions around frustums. It is leveled / differentiated to enable pupils to begin at different places or keep working upwards in terms of challenge. I use this sheet often as my main resource to practise and to review / practise the formula for volume of pyramids and cones. This is LINKED to my LESSON on VOLUME OF FRUSTUMS (an excellent teaching resource!) which has the answers embedded. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/geometry-volume-4-volume-of-frustums-new-content-for-gcse-worksheet-11437033 NOTE: Feel free to browse my shop for more excellent free and premium resources and as always please rate and feedback, thank you.
