Clock Wall Display.

Some of my children struggle with “Time” so I made this break down, to display on the wall around the classroom wall clock. It made a difference straight away and the children really do benefit from seeing it everyday rather than just during lessons when the topic is ‘Time’. I have saved the resource on a powerpoint presentation and will be willing to e-mail it to anyone who would like it for their classrooms. All i ask for is a £1 donation to my just giving page, helping to raise money for a year 9 residential trip for our children at Wilson Stuart SEN School. Leave your e-mail address in the comments of the donation on my just giving page and i will send the powerpoint directly to your e-mail address. www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/tamara-matthews Thank you! GCSE revision lessons

GCSE revision lessons

Here is a small group of revision lessons I have recently used for my year 11 students. These have been written with them in mind and cover the types of questions they were struggling with. Generally I tend to go through one or two at the board before they attempt the others. Revision lessons included are Probability tree diagrams Distance speed time Ingredient questions Flow diagrams and some general “wordy” questions that can be troubling for many students.

24 and 12 Hour Clocks – Math Puzzle

24 and 12 Hour Clocks – Math Puzzle

24 and 12 Hour Clocks – Math Puzzle Match up the times of 24 and 12 Hour Clocks. I’ve included three different sizes of the same puzzle. The smaller size is only three pages and it is great if you are going to print of individual (or to work in pairs) copies for students to practice with in class or at home. The larger size requires 6 pieces of paper and quite a bit of space to solve – fun for centers and group work. The extra-large size requires 18 pieces of paper. Cut out the puzzle pieces (or even better if your students do it themselves) and students are to solve the puzzle so that it matches the solution provided. If your students are going to cut out the pieces then no prep is needed – the puzzle is not in order. I’ve been using these puzzles for years with great success! I recommend printing the puzzles on colourful paper and laminating them. This way you only have to cut them out once and they will last for years! What is included in this product? • The solution to the puzzle – Pages 2 • The normal size puzzle – Pages 3 – 5 • The large size puzzle – Pages 6 – 11 • The extra-large size puzzle – Pages 12-29 • Questions and Answers in a table format for easy grading or you can cut these out to play a matching game – Pages 30 – 32 My students love doing these types of puzzles. This product can also be used as a perfect revision of the school work to do at home. All answers can be easily checked thanks to the included solution to the puzzle or questions and answers shown in a table. Thank you for checking my resources.

World Traveler Social Studies & Math Research Project Continents Elapsed Time

World Traveler Social Studies & Math Research Project Continents Elapsed Time

This is a research-based learning project that integrates social studies, math, and writing. To complete this project, students will go on a world tour of six different countries around the world. Through their travels, they will learn the location of these countries along with important facts. To get to each destination, students must use their budgeted money to buy plane tickets. They will use subtraction to calculate how much money they have left after each purchase and determine the length of each flight (elapsed time). They will also mark each location on a world map and label the continents. After traveling to all six destinations, students will use 3-digit addition to calculate the total money spent. They will also write a descriptive paragraph about a landmark of their choice and an opinion paragraph about the location they would like to visit again. Includes: ✓ Teacher instructions ✓ World map in color and black/white ✓ 12-page passport booklet ✓ Customs stamps for each country ✓ Boarding passes/airline tickets ✓ Travel book to hold tickets and stamps ✓ Answer keys The passport book is where students will record their work. They will research each location to complete its page in the passport. They will find the country, continent, capital city, official language, currency, climate, and important landmark. Kid-safe website suggestions for conducting research are included. The first page of the passport is the travel budget. Students will use this page to keep track of their tickets and calculate how much money they have left after each purchase. The last three pages of the passport include a landmark matching activity, a page with addition, subtraction, and elapsed time questions, and the descriptive and opinion writing activities. The countries students will visit include: • Australia • Brazil • China • Egypt • Germany • Russia

KS2 Maths (Time)

KS2 Maths (Time)

These topic-focused SATs questions at the end of a unit will help to test and extend students’ understanding as well as helping them to prepare for SATs next year. These questions have fully-worked solutions which can be displayed on a whiteboard making feedback with students more efficient. Click 👉 tes.com/…/KS2-Maths-Questions… for similar-style compilations on the other KS2 topics.<hr>This particular compilation is from the MEASUREMENT strand and contains questions on time. Students will need to interpret analogue and digital representations of times and perform a variety of calculations that involve time and time differences.<hr>I have designed this compilation to be printed as an A4 or A5 booklet which is in the style of the actual SATs papers and is convenient for use in class or as homework. It can even be given to individual students if a parent is asking for ‘some more work’! KEY POINTS: I have provided full answers, with comments and working where helpful. I have maintained the style of the actual SATs questions so that students can become comfortable with the way that SATs questions are presented. Most of the questions are from actual SATs papers, but I have also added questions so that this resource matches the requirements the current curriculum better than the older resources that are still in common use (note that many of the older resources of this type contain questions on topics which are no longer examined). I have spent a lot of time arranging the questions so that there is a general increase in difficulty as students work through them, and so that they fit on the pages better – this means less wasted space and significant paper-saving when printing 😃 <hr>👍If you like this resource, then please rate it and/or leave a comment💬. Andy's SSDD Questions 4 - Hobbies

Andy's SSDD Questions 4 - Hobbies

This idea is from Craig Barton and is an excellent one (check them out his at website); essentially it is four questions based on the same information. There are four here which use ratio, Pythagoras, time, fractions, probability, percentages and measures as well as other topics. This really should create discussion and a deeper understanding of the topics covered on top of ensuring that students actually read the question. I hope these are worthy! I will be using these as starters or plenaries.

Time Travel! An Inquiry Based Maths Adventure

Time Travel! An Inquiry Based Maths Adventure

Get ready to take a journey of adventure around the world and across time with this inquiry based math project. It offers collaborative learning and hands on inquiry requiring the children to solve problems, think critically and apply their knowledge of elapsed time, measure and scale, area, place value and fractions as they select their countries to visit and travel back in time exploring historical moments around the world. Text is included with data that the children will have to identify in order to solve the problems. Research will be necessary as the children have to know the location of their countries, capital cities as well as facts and figures with each historical marker or event. Math becomes authentic! UK & USA spelling included. But, before they even set off on their adventure, they have to design their own time travel machine! This was designed to be a mixture of collaborative group work and independent work but of course you can opt to do either or all. I prefer to have the children work on the pages individually before they compare their designs and work together as a small group to collaboratively create the map, their group plan of the time machine and planning their presentation. It usually takes me about 2 weeks to complete the entire project. It culminates in a class presentation of the facts found and reasoning as to their plan, design of their team’s route, their discoveries and their designed machine. Comparing and contrasting each group’s work helps with critical thinking too and communication skills. Wholly differentiated, ( Task B cards are less challenging) you can use it as a summative assessment tool of the skills and standards included. It can be created as a work booklet or in a binder, with a front cover included, being used as a goal setting pre assessment for the children. Mix and match the pages to suit your students’ needs. This inquiry based math packet is easy to print and go. I designed it for my IB PYP 5th grade class. It can be used 4th – 6th grade too. You will find the following skills and standards ideally suited for the IB PYP Phase 4 and CCSS Math for 4th and 5th grade: Place value Fractions: equivalent fractions/simplifying Measure: using measuring tools, elapsed time, area and scale Ratio tables Geometry: identifying polygons and angles And more. Make math fun, engaging an authentic! You can find many more inquiry based learning tools in my store and on my blog. Enjoy! Susan Powers

Solving GCSE Maths word problems: approach and template for EAL students/other with language needs

Solving GCSE Maths word problems: approach and template for EAL students/other with language needs

Recent changes to the GSCE maths exams have made them increasingly challenging for EAL students. More and longer word problems reduce the students’ ability to succeed purely on the basis of their maths ability; an increased level of English mastery is now required. This resource is intended to support EAL and other students (e.g. SEN) who find that the complex language of mathematics word problems can make them inaccessible. The approach has been tested with 30 GCSE word problems. It aims to allow such problems to be tackled more methodically and with greater confidence. The resource contains: • A copy of the approach sheet • A rationale • Two copies of the 30 questions (the second one provides a model for underlining). • Worked solutions for each problem, using the approach sheet. A second copy of these sheets is provided for the purposes of differentiation; this provides a scaffold for less confident students, modelling how to organise and diagrammatically represent the information from the question and allowing the students to do the calculations. • A list of common-usage words that regularly appear in word problems. This is suitable for: • EAL students (advanced stage) • Late arrivals in KS4 • Students with SEN may also find it more accessible.
