Pupils circle any boxes containing errors. Then they assemble letters from the circled boxes to reveal the hidden maths word. (In the rounding puzzle pupils find the numbers that don’t round to specified target numbers and in some of the fractions puzzles, pupils must find non-equivalent fractions etc). Puzzles can be completed individually or in pairs / groups. In many puzzles there is an extension question / challenge linked to the hidden word, which on some may require a little research if time. Pupils often forget or avoid checking their work for errors so it’s great to get them carefully checking in these puzzles. Spotting common errors may help them remember to check their own work and help them avoid common errors themselves. Thank you for your interest in my resources. I do hope your students enjoy using these puzzles. Please do consider giving a review on TES if you get a spare moment. I would be so grateful. Time Consuming Puzzles

Time Consuming Puzzles

This activity is a unique great puzzle game aimed at training students to think multiple steps ahead. To solve each puzzle you must use numbers, logic and even a little bit of luck, to predict how the hands of the clock will rotate and eliminate all the numbers. Think of it like a Mathematical, pen-and-paper version of Candy Crush. It is a simple puzzle to implement during your study of topics such as Time, Numbers and Statistics. Your students will have a great time solving these for themselves and designing new set ups to try and trap their friends! Time Consuming Puzzles can be used as an opener or "do now" task to begin any lesson and fire up your students' brains!

Speed Distance Time

Speed Distance Time

6 differentiated Four in a Row / Connect Four style game boards for consolidation of Speed, Distance and Time calculations, to suit Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) or early KS3 (originally designed for a Year 6 / Y6 class). This is a fun alternative activity to additional jotter / textbook work on this maths / numeracy topic, after pupils have been introduced to (or revised) the formulae D=SxT, S=D÷T and T=D÷S. ANSWER VERSIONS of all games are included. Contains a more simple (one star) and more challenging (two star) version for each of: Distance Travelled Average Speed Time Taken In addition to featuring generally more challenging calculations, the two-star versions of each require conversion between units in some cases. Print and laminate the boards for regular use. I recommend printing boards in A3 if possible (or enlarging them to A3 on the copier) but A4 will be okay too. Pupils work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a die each time to find which column to pick a calculation from (the columns are numbered 1-6). If there are no calculations left in the column whose number they have rolled, they either skip a go or roll again (depending on the rules you have chosen). Pupils write their answers on the board with a whiteboard marker. They could either use a different coloured pen to record answers on the board or add an initial or symbol if using the same coloured pen as their opponent. I hope your students enjoy playing these games. What about this festive mental maths puzzle pack?
