Bearing Task to use with pairs/group/class.

Bearing Task to use with pairs/group/class.

I have adapted this from Mr Pullin's bearings sheet. Give the pupils the map and the first resource sheet. Pupils are to plan a tour of Europe on the first sheet, using the map to calculate bearings and distances. They then copy the bearings and distances on the second sheet and give this to someone else in the room (they can swap completed sheets). The second person needs to do the tour and find which places have been visited. At the end, they can check with each other to see if they have completed it correctly.

Transformations Matching Card Sort

Transformations Matching Card Sort

Students first group the cards in to the four types of transformations. This will promote discussion of how to spot each type. Then students match each card to a description. Many of the descriptions are similar, promoting discussion of common misconceptions. There is also one extra description of each type of transformation. This is to stop students from not checking the last of each transformation, but also allows students to draw each type of transformation. This activity would be an ideal way to lead in to 'Describing Transformations' after covering 'Drawing Transformations'.
