GCSE Higher exam-style questions: Fractions, ratios and percentages

GCSE Higher exam-style questions: Fractions, ratios and percentages

This worksheet is aimed at students capable of attaining at least levels 4 to 7 of the new maths specification. This is a high-quality resource but priced low to encourage sales. Exercise 1 is a basic lead-in exercise in converting decimals to percentages, and vice versa, without using a calculator. Exercise 2, 3 and 4 are longer more challenging questions. Exercise 2 is based on application of a government levy to gas and electricity sales made by an energy company. Exercise 3 is based on the salt water content of a lake and comparing it to sea water, finding various ratios, masses, etc. Exercise 4, which is the longest exercise, is based on fuel deliveries made by a fuel distribution company, involving a range of calculations from fuel economy to Gross Profit Margin. A comprehensive answer sheet with full workings is appended to the worksheet. PLEASE CHECK the notes on calculating Net Sales before giving Exercise 4, part (j) to your students, as they will need some explanation of that term. DOCX and PDF worksheets supplied.

Rounding - Twitter Followers

Rounding - Twitter Followers

An activity that gets children to round statistics based on the top 10 followed people on Twitter to help with engagement whilst also getting children to consider how to round up or down appropriately depending on the number e.g. rounding 112,543,124 to the nearest million rather than to the nearest 10. For each one, children will cut out the slip and stick it in their book. They will then have to decide whether it is appropriate to round to the nearest 10, 100, 1000, 10000, 100000 or 1000000. Once they have rounded these they will then write an explanation of why they rounded to that number.
