Gender Representation Bundle

Gender Representation Bundle

2 PowerPoints provide detailed case studies of gender representation in a TV commercial and a DVD cover. Both are 'rich texts' and lend themselves very well to analysis. A 3rd PowerPoint helps students learn to analyse by using the 'red-green system', which emphasises denotation and connotation when writing about media texts. 2 hours plus teaching in 3 easy to use PowerPoints.

Gender representation -Applied to a DVD cover

Gender representation -Applied to a DVD cover

In this detailed PowerPoint lesson, the concept of gender representation is introduced and then applied to The Adjustment Bureau DVD cover. Using the mnemonic GILT (graphics, image, layout and text) the front and back cover are deconstructed, with detailed notes provided that suggest what sort of observations students should be making. These are presented using the 'red-green' system, a handy way of ensuring students analyse rather than just describe. The lesson ends with an essay title that requires students to apply what they have learned. This would be an ideal way of demonstrating the theory in action, as the chosen contemporary text is an excellent example of gender stereotyping. This PowerPoint would be suitable as an hour long lesson. Please see my other resources at the mediamnemonics TES shop. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/mediamnemonics
