Children will look at the history of Viking warfare and weapons during their invasion of the United Kingdom. Children will then design their own defence or weapon modification with littleBits based on Viking design. In the past, I have introduced this lesson dressed as a Monk in a Monastery with the lights off and candles lit. I play audio in the background of Monks singing (link provided) before acting frightened at the arrival of Vikings coming ashore (link provided). This unit is bundled with Working Scientifically objectives for Years 3 and 4. An editable digital links for sharing on Google Classroom and Seesaw available in zip files with download.

This is a game I designed for students learning the GCSE Germany 1918-45 module. This can be used to help students prepare for their GCSE Exams. The instructions on how to play are printed on the board game. This can be used in class, dinner times or as Revision sessions after school as a method for intervention and to make students become more enthusiastic to learn and revise for their GCSE. Spanish Armada Tarsia Revision Puzzle

This Tarsia puzzle covers the theme of the Spanish Armada. Great for 9-1 GCSE revision, intervention sessions and KS3 history. A Tarsia puzzle requires students to match up sides of triangles to form a hexagonal shape. They are brilliant for revision and get students to think hard. I use these at the starts of ends of lessons and they can take 10-20 minutes depending on your class’s confidence in the material. All materials are provided here including student instructions, student puzzle pieces and teacher answers. All images have been acquired through a search engine filtered to labelled for re-use. The plans include a break down of each of the topics studied with useful websites students can access to help them further. These were made for my students so that they didn’t feel they had to buy revision guides.

A whole lesson as part of a KS3 Change in Warfare unit. The lesson is completely ready to go. Interactive and engaging. Discussion of a source as a starter. Brief contextual overview Group work to become experts on 1 of 3 case studies of early cannon use. (I have designed the task to produce a news report but could be altered to be an ask the expert task very easily. Information sheets are built into the powerpoint.) Students give their news reports whilst the class collect information about each in a table. Assessment comes in the form of a PEEL paragraph with useful sentence starters. Hope you enjoy :)

This is part of a scheme of work that prepares KS3 pupils for the GCSE reforms and skills required for KS4. Pupils will be provided with opportunities within the lesson to build on their ability to write in PEEL paragraphs, make inferences, and analyse a source to explain why it is useful. Pupils will: 1 identify what has happened to a building that has been bombed and explain how they know this using an inference 2. watch Pathe primary sources to examine the experiences of Londoners during the Blitz 3. Describe where shelter would be found and explain which was best and why (PEEL) 4. Analyse a source to explain why it is useful for a historian examining the experiences of Londoners during WW2.

Aimed at developing skills required for the GCSE reforms at KS4, this lesson encourages pupils to develop PEEL paragraphs for the explain two consequences question. This is part of a scheme of work about WW2 - the rest of which can be found within my shop. Pupils will: Identify who Winston Churchill is as a hook to the lesson describe why France surrenders using images to challenge them to think outside of the box Use a WAGOLL to identify examination skills required and the structure of a PEEL paragraph Use an information sheet (included) and the WAGOLL to structure their own PEEL paragraph explaining a consequence of the defeat of Poland. Peer assess their work to reflect on their own progress within the lesson.

A whole lesson with worksheets and fully differentiated that compares Tojo, Hitler and Stalin. Pupils identify what a dictator is and who the three men are They describe/explain how a dictator is able to rise to power Compare similarities and differences between the three men Evaluate who changed the most things in their country and why we remember their atrocities rather than the positive changes they made to their countries. I use this as an introduction to a unit on WW2 to provide pupils with some context into the political landscape of the world prior to the start of the war.
