Area and perimeter garden design project

Area and perimeter garden design project

For Year 6, and lower Secondary School Design a garden plan using compound rectilinear shapes. Using formulae, children calculate the area and perimeter of each area of the garden. Using a price list, the children then work out the total cost of the different surfaces they are using. Working to a budget. Great for building methodical working strategies.

Area of compound/composite shapes

Area of compound/composite shapes

The power point has been attached to allow for easy changes to be made and to duplicate questions with different numbers etc. Differentiated questions are attached on a printable word document. Colour coordinated for visual. From basic compound shapes of two rectangles, moving on to include parallelograms, triangles and trapeziums. Final challenge will include circles and problem solving. I laminated these cards and used mini whiteboards to take the children outside of the classroom. The worksheet is further practice and is not something I created myself, but useful for consolidation as a homework. Also differentiated.

Functional Skills L1 Revision Questions and Facts Cards. Matching or Flash cards. 40 cards.

Functional Skills L1 Revision Questions and Facts Cards. Matching or Flash cards. 40 cards.

Here are some revision cards I made after reviewing the chief examiners report for functional skills maths at level 1. I needed some new revision materials and I know learners often like to make revision cards. Here we have double sided cards which can be used in a few different ways. They are colour coded for number, shape space and measure and statistics. Plus 3 challenge cards in black. Plenty of challenge for even the most able L1 learners. Print the cards off and fold them over so you have flash cards with functional skills type questions on one side and the answers on the back. All answers have the maths facts associated with the questions and then a worked solution so the learners can see how to apply the knowledge to an actual question. Always more useful then just having a fact or an answer and excellent modeling of practice for learners who have up coming exams . Can be given out to take home and as such I have kept the pictures to a minimal to keep the printing costs lower. I have also used these cards cut up into answers and questions and given out for the learners to match them up, like matching cards and they can then photograph the cards when completed for further revision. Finally when learners are completing functional skills practice papers these cards are handy for the learners to refer to. After you have helped them you can collect a relevant card and test them to ensure they have now understood a topic they were struggling with. Instead of just giving them the answer try and solve a similar functional sills style question with them and then see if they can apply it to the paper. Level 2 will also be coming soon. Please see my shop letsgetfunctional for loads of revision activities for functional and GCSE maths. Please note if purchasing for use with GCSE maths these cards cover lots of functional skills topics but they do not cover topics which are not on the functional skills exam papers! For example probability trees, prime numbers and factors are not necessary to be taught and I like to keep my functional skills revision activities relevant to help functional skills learners pass their test without confusing them. The following topics are included: Fractions Percentages Rounding Converting fractions to a percentages Area and Perimeter and Volume Scale Plan Checking Calculations Mean and Range Bar Charts and Tables Converting metric units Practical problems Ratio Challenge questions (x 3)

Royal Wedding Maths Lesson

Royal Wedding Maths Lesson

**L.O: **I can apply my mathematics skills to practical problem solving. S.C I can choose the perfect wedding venue using my knowledge of area and perimeter. I can find the correct measurements for the wedding cake using my knowledge of shapes I can select the cheapest option out of two given options. I can apply all my mathematical skills effectively. I can present my work at a high standard. I can work effectively and collaboratively in a group. Curriculum Links: Number: • Solve number and practical problems that recognising numbers, addition, multiplication and division. • Solve addition and subtraction multi-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why. Geometry: • Illustrate and name parts of circles, including radius, diameter and circumference and know that the diameter is twice the radius. • To be able to work out the perimeter, area, circumpherence, diameter and the volume of shapes. Ratio and proportion: • Solve problems involving unequal sharing and grouping using knowledge of fractions and multiples. Following the latest news report that Meghan Markle’s dad has had to pull out of the wedding, I have created a maths lesson for Year 6. As their SATs are finished it would be nice for them to start project like activites. This puts the pupils in place of the wedding planner meaning that they have to use a range of mathematical skills. They work in groups and give a formal presentation at the end explaining their working out and the reasons for making the choices they have. They will do this lesson Friday so there is an emphasis of there only being one day left so they have to work quickly and efficiently. I hope you enjoy this! I have attached a detailed lesson plan which makes everything clear.

The fully editable powerpoint presentation of my very popular Fidget Spinner Maths Problems. There are four problems, each with the answer, so the presentation has eight useable slides (plus a title and end slide). The first problem looks at finding the perimeter of the fidget spinner from given information. The second problem asks for an algebraic expression for the perimeter of the spinner. The third problem looks at finding the area of the fidget spinner. The final problem looks at finding an algebraic expression for the area of the fidget spinner. Each problem is followed by a worked solution. This version is fully editable, so you could change the numbers or make alterations for your own use as required.

Roll-a-topic GCSE foundation Geometry Revision

Roll-a-topic GCSE foundation Geometry Revision

A revision activity that can be used for KS3 or foundation GCSE pupils. Can be implemented in lots of ways. I ask pupils to get into pairs, take turns rolling two dice to form a co-ordinate and attempt to solve the corresponding question. Pupil put their initials on problems they have solved and after 30-45 minutes stop and count who has solved the most. Very engaging for year 10 and 11 foundation GCSE pupils. If you use this resource please leave a review! :)

Topic-focused SATs questions and fully-worked solutions for the MEASUREMENT strand. Click 👉 tes.com/…/bundles… for booklet bundles of the other strands.<hr>I have put all my MEASUREMENT booklets together in this one convenient download. I hope that this is helpful to you.<hr> The questions in these booklets are in the style of actual SATs questions and are designed to be printed as A4 or A5. KEY POINTS: I have provided full answers, with comments and working where helpful. I have maintained the style of the actual SATs questions so that students can become comfortable with the way that SATs questions are presented. Most of the questions are from actual SATs papers, but I have also added questions so that this resource matches the requirements the current curriculum better than the older resources that are still in common use (note that many of the older resources of this type contain questions on topics which are no longer examined). I have spent a lot of time arranging the questions so that there is a general increase in difficulty as students work through them, and so that they fit on the pages better – this means less wasted space and significant paper-saving when printing 😃 <hr>👍If you like this resource, then please rate it and/or leave a comment💬. If you haven’t heard your students talking about Fortnite then where have you been? 45 million people play the shooter game Fortnite and I can’t stop the kids I teach from talking about it. This activity incorporates lots of different concepts: Ratios/Scales Bearings Speed, distance, time Pythagoras Area problem solving Edit and remove questions as you want. If you print at 100% the scale will be 1.5cm to 250m Otherwise you might have to give it a measure if you print to fit Also: The locations from the bearings are locations required for one of the challenges this season to get them even more engaged.
