Area and perimeter garden design project

Area and perimeter garden design project

For Year 6, and lower Secondary School Design a garden plan using compound rectilinear shapes. Using formulae, children calculate the area and perimeter of each area of the garden. Using a price list, the children then work out the total cost of the different surfaces they are using. Working to a budget. Great for building methodical working strategies.

Royal Wedding Maths Lesson

Royal Wedding Maths Lesson

**L.O: **I can apply my mathematics skills to practical problem solving. S.C I can choose the perfect wedding venue using my knowledge of area and perimeter. I can find the correct measurements for the wedding cake using my knowledge of shapes I can select the cheapest option out of two given options. I can apply all my mathematical skills effectively. I can present my work at a high standard. I can work effectively and collaboratively in a group. Curriculum Links: Number: • Solve number and practical problems that recognising numbers, addition, multiplication and division. • Solve addition and subtraction multi-step problems in contexts, deciding which operations and methods to use and why. Geometry: • Illustrate and name parts of circles, including radius, diameter and circumference and know that the diameter is twice the radius. • To be able to work out the perimeter, area, circumpherence, diameter and the volume of shapes. Ratio and proportion: • Solve problems involving unequal sharing and grouping using knowledge of fractions and multiples. Following the latest news report that Meghan Markle’s dad has had to pull out of the wedding, I have created a maths lesson for Year 6. As their SATs are finished it would be nice for them to start project like activites. This puts the pupils in place of the wedding planner meaning that they have to use a range of mathematical skills. They work in groups and give a formal presentation at the end explaining their working out and the reasons for making the choices they have. They will do this lesson Friday so there is an emphasis of there only being one day left so they have to work quickly and efficiently. I hope you enjoy this! I have attached a detailed lesson plan which makes everything clear.

Royal Wedding Maths Year 4

Royal Wedding Maths Year 4

I made these resources to revise some of the Year 4 curriculum before the children sit the optional SATs. The first sheets are work on statistics and money (I have used a graph from a sheet I got off the TES, so thank you to that person who put it up). The second file covers time. We used it as an assessment of the children’s skills. We told the children to complete the first 3 columns the first day and then the next day we told them that the Army only work in 24 hour clock, so we need to convert them. I hope you find it useful.

Theme Park Manager percentages game (full lesson)

Theme Park Manager percentages game (full lesson)

This game puts students in charge of a theme park, for which they will choose from a selection of rides using the ride information cards, which detail the running cost and ticket price of each ride, the percentage of visitors that buy a ticket for it, its risk rating, and the cost of insurance for it. Each day a dice roll will then generate a random event which impacts on the fate of the rides, and students will have to use their knowledge of percentages to calculate the number of visitors buying a ticket for each of their rides that day. Included: – A powerpoint presentation outlining the rules and taking you through the game; – A set of information cards for students to use to choose their rides; and – A colour coded table for students to fill in throughout the game to keep track of the popularity of their rides, any fines they have to pay or compensation they are awarded. This is an excellent resource for consolidating students’ knowledge of how to calculate percentages of numbers and increase numbers by a given percentage. It also makes use of other basic number skills and strategic decision making. The game should take around 50 minutes start to finish, but it will be within your control to increase or decrease this as appropriate. Great to use as a fun end of term game that still gets students using lots of important maths skills without it feeling like work. <!—A fun end of term game maths game to reinforce knowledge of calculating percentages, which leads naturally to useful discussions as students are keen to calculate how much money they have earned. —>

SATs Bundle (Measurement)

SATs Bundle (Measurement)

Topic-focused SATs questions and fully-worked solutions for the MEASUREMENT strand. Click 👉 tes.com/…/bundles… for booklet bundles of the other strands.
I have put all my MEASUREMENT booklets together in this one convenient download. I hope that this is helpful to you.
The questions in these booklets are in the style of actual SATs questions and are designed to be printed as A4 or A5. KEY POINTS: I have provided full answers, with comments and working where helpful. I have maintained the style of the actual SATs questions so that students can become comfortable with the way that SATs questions are presented. Most of the questions are from actual SATs papers, but I have also added questions so that this resource matches the requirements the current curriculum better than the older resources that are still in common use (note that many of the older resources of this type contain questions on topics which are no longer examined). I have spent a lot of time arranging the questions so that there is a general increase in difficulty as students work through them, and so that they fit on the pages better – this means less wasted space and significant paper-saving when printing 😃
👍If you like this resource, then please rate it and/or leave a comment💬. If the rate-resource button on this page doesn’t work, then go to your ratings page by clicking 👉 www.tes.com/…/rate-resources…

Converting between pounds and pence SEN

Converting between pounds and pence SEN

An introduction to money conversion between pounds and pence with a place value grid. 3 resources: Support sheet with grid for each question converting pence to pounds and pounds to pence convert pence to pounds, convert pounds to pence and mixed 3 place vale grids to help convert money for tables or display. This was designed for my SEN children who are struggling with the idea of decimals, multiplying by 100 and money notation all at the same time . To reinforce the idea that the digits stay the same, in the same order, pounds have the decimal point and zeros are used as a place holder. Would suit KS2, worked well for my lower year 4’s
