YEAR 12 (MEDIA EDUQAS LINEAR): COMP1, SEC B: RADIO 'LATE NIGHT WOMEN'S HOUR' AN INTRO AND AUDIENCE

YEAR 12 (MEDIA EDUQAS LINEAR): COMP1, SEC B: RADIO 'LATE NIGHT WOMEN'S HOUR' AN INTRO AND AUDIENCE

LESSON 21-23 IN THE SERIES OF SECTION B LESSONS: AUDIENCE AND CONTEXTS= This Triple lesson begins to look at Late Night Women’s Hour and how the show attracts audiences. I have worked extensively on this series of lessons (6 lessons in total) as Staff, students and feedback fro Media Teachers around the country have specified that this form is especially hard to teach with regards to student engagement and accessibility. This Triple lesson looks at: -Audience profiling -Is structured around two questions form the EDUQAS SAMS materials which students will answer at the end. -Socio/cultural and historical content to BBC and Radio 4. -The mission statement of both the BBC and Radio 4. -A fantastic resource that breaks down listeners of Radio . -A clip on the history of Womens Hour, the show that influenced ‘LNWH’. -An in-depth Article on the selected episode of ‘LNWH’ (Link included in Power Point). -Stuart Hall’s three readings theory. -Issues surrounding an all-female panel on audiences. -Class task working through each of the two SAMS questions (Walking Talking Mock). -Context on the host and how this may attract a viewer. Use of EDUQAS fact sheet breakdown as my students commented that they were finding this particular fact sheet hard to access (Differentiation). Consider how audiences are grouped and categorised by media industries, including by age, gender and social class, as well as by lifestyle and taste. Consider how audiences interpret the media, including how and why audiences may interpret the same media in different ways. THIS LESSON INCLUDES ALL LINKS, PRINTABLE RESOURCE AND PRINTABLE RESOURCE SHEETS WITHIN THE POWER POINT This will be uploaded as a series of lessons on Component 1, Section Band will be part of a group of resources with different theories/terms as headings under each Exam Component. This lesson is therefore Ideal for those wanting to Team Teach or teach Component 1, Sections A and B at differing times. NOTE: I am following EDUQAS Teaching Model 1 in my teaching/ SOW and my school is only providing Media Studies at A-Level, as a Two- Year Course. Moreover, each lesson has a task whereby students RAG (Red, Amber, Green) what they have learnt in the lesson against an Examiner checklist (Differentiation, peer assessment). If you liked this resource and found it useful, it would be greatly appreciated if you could feedback or rate my resource as I am constantly trying to adapt and refine my resources to improve the learning of my students. Many thanks.

LESSON 18-20 IN THE SERIES OF SECTION B LESSONS: INDUSTRY AND CONTEXTS= This Triple lesson continues an in-depth look at the varying ways ‘I, Daniel Blake’ and ‘Straight Outta Compton’ were distributed, produced and advertised. This Triple lesson focuses on: -Social Realism -Ken Loach Bio -Marxism -Pluralism -INDEPENDENT FILM COMPANY (INDIES) -Cornell Notes resource to aid in application of knowledge to exam style questions -TV License -WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF ‘I, DANIEL BLAKE’ BEING AN INDEPENDENT FILM? -How do issues such as ownership and distribution effect the success of ‘I Daniel Blake’? The Six Conglomerates that dominate the Media including Comcast who own Universal Pictures -A* THEORISTS: CURRAN AND SEATON -Market-Liberalism Perspective -Political-Economy Perspective -Active and Passive audiences -The Black Lives Matter Movement context and application -Uses and gratifications -Ways to Industries identify Audiences -Pick ans -Pick and Mix theory- David Gauntlett -Explain how national and global audiences can be reached through different media technologies and platforms. THIS LESSON INCLUDES A H/W TASK AND PRINTABLE RESOURCES/ RESOURCE SHEETS WITHIN THE POWER POINT This will be uploaded as a series of lessons on Component 1, Section Band will be part of a group of resources with different theories/terms as headings under each Exam Component. This lesson is therefore Ideal for those wanting to Team Teach or teach Component 1, Sections A and B at differing times. Resources for the Close Study Product for the reformed AQA GCSE Media Studies course. Designed for AQA, also applies to Eduqas and anyone discussing the launch of Apple Beats 1 in 2015 and the changing radio/streaming landscape. The resources study the Media Audiences and Industries around the Beats1 launch and the social and political aspects of this decision. The Powerpoint includes all resources and four lessons work (with possible expansion). Lesson 1: How has radio changed since the launch of Radio 1.? The historical development of Apple Beats 1 - what is Beats 1? Who are the launch DJs and why have they been chosen? Lesson 2: What is the Julie Adenuga Show? How does Beats1 compare with traditional media forms. Lesson 3: How much of a threat is Beats1 to the traditional radio industry? How do Apple target their audience? How does Beats 1 fulfill the needs of listeners Lesson 4: What is the future of radio? How do the launches of Radio 1 (other CSP) and Apple Beats1 compare? All of the above are linked through activities to the Apple Beats1 Launch Show and could extend into further lessons and discussions. As previous 5-star reviews for other CSPs published on TES have stated ‘these are great starting points’ for lesson delivery.
