Area and Perimeter Spiders

Area and Perimeter Spiders

Six different "spiders" moving through rectangles, triangles, trapeziums, circles and compound shapes. These are designed to prevent students hgetting in to a rut when answering questions and to encourage discussion. Ideally used as starter or plenary but could be used as a set of questions to consolidate new learning.

Speed Distance Time

Speed Distance Time

6 differentiated Four in a Row / Connect Four style game boards for consolidation of Speed, Distance and Time calculations, to suit Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) or early KS3 (originally designed for a Year 6 / Y6 class). This is a fun alternative activity to additional jotter / textbook work on this maths / numeracy topic, after pupils have been introduced to (or revised) the formulae D=SxT, S=D÷T and T=D÷S. ANSWER VERSIONS of all games are included. Contains a more simple (one star) and more challenging (two star) version for each of: Distance Travelled Average Speed Time Taken In addition to featuring generally more challenging calculations, the two-star versions of each require conversion between units in some cases. Print and laminate the boards for regular use. I recommend printing boards in A3 if possible (or enlarging them to A3 on the copier) but A4 will be okay too. Pupils work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row - horizontally, vertically or diagonally. They roll a die each time to find which column to pick a calculation from (the columns are numbered 1-6). If there are no calculations left in the column whose number they have rolled, they either skip a go or roll again (depending on the rules you have chosen). Pupils write their answers on the board with a whiteboard marker. They could either use a different coloured pen to record answers on the board or add an initial or symbol if using the same coloured pen as their opponent. I hope your students enjoy playing these games. What about this festive mental maths puzzle pack? Measurement Test Generator for Year 9

Measurement Test Generator for Year 9

This resource has been created in Microsoft Excel and is designed to be used as a test or practice test for Year 9 Measurement. Knowledge assessed includes: Perimeter, area, volume, total surface area and conversion between units in one, two and three dimensions. Admittedly, this resource does not comprehensively allow students to demonstrate knowledge at the A level against the Australian Curriculum for Year 9 as there is only one challenging worded problem at the end. I created this resource because I love having students ask for practice questions, but hate writing new questions and their solutions. This resource contains multiple choice questions and short answer questions as well as a solutions tab to each question for printing solutions. All values, and most worded problems are randomly generated from the 'Variables' tab to produce a unique set of questions when F9 (Windows) or fn F9 (Mac) are pressed. Most multiple choice questions will have their answer order randomized. Solutions are generated to match.
