#### Theme Park Challenge - Maths

A good “Final Week” style activity which can last over several sessions or be finished in an afternoon. On sale for this final week of the term. Enjoy the Summer! Everything included - just add dice! This is a roleplay experience for children, aimed at Years 4 and above. Using squared paper and the instructions contained within, children design their own Theme park, use dice to generate the number of visitors, and see how much they made. Added problems such as rides not working add variation to each of the five days. Each ride has its own excitement rating and this means that children need to build a balanced park to fit the tastes of everyone. The game guides children and yourself through each of the steps with clear examples given for each step too. Mathematically this requires HTO x O skills, as well as some basic area knowledge (understanding that a footprint of 3x3 for a ride would mean 3 squares by 3 squares, so 9 squares). Custom-made games to fit a theme can be commissioned on request - get in touch!

#### STEM WORLD CUP MATHS SPY CAPER. GROUP WORK TEAM BUILDING. END OF YEAR ACTIVITY.

ALL proceeds from this lesson resource will be donated to the charity STECS (Scottish Terrier Emergency Care Scheme UK). So please ask colleagues to purchase rather than “share”. This is an engaging, editable maths STEM activity with a World Cup & Russian spy theme. So it really works well for KS3 pupils who are interested in Football and also those who are totally not! Pupils use a cipher wheel to solve maths questions in each round (differentiated, some easy some more challenging), to find a Russian spy. It requires pupils moving around the school and some support from other colleagues eg receptionist, lab techs-maybe you could even convince the Head teacher to act as the spy? Everyone involved really enjoyed it. This took 2 hours, but could be shortened by removing middle rounds. I have had really good feedback from a variety of teachers at my school who delivered this maths based STEM lesson as non subject specialists (form tutors) during a collapsed timetable week at school with KS3 pupils . This could also be used as team building activity for staff and pupils.

#### Outside With Perimeter Area And Volume

During this lesson students investigate, measure and use formulas outdoors in preparation for furthering their understanding in the topic of geometry. They apply their understanding of perimeter, area and volume to real world situations by looking for and recording a range of shapes around their school. #### World Cup 2018 maths ideas mat

This resource is a maths poster giving ideas for different maths activities that use the vast amount of data that can be collected during the World Cup 2018. The poster is organised using the strands of the curriculum ranging from year 1 to year 6, each one can be adapted to suit the age of the pupils. For number and place value, why not compare stadium capacity , find out which team is the most expensive or how far teams have had to travel to Russia. For geometry, consider symmetry and shapes on flags and football kits or angles of the ball when taking corners or penalties. Ideas presented here would also make a really good transition unit for year 6 pupils , enabling them to practice key skills in a fun context. Don’t forget there is also a wealth of statistical information available on line to explore.

#### Angles in polygons, including exterior and exterior; Angles within circles; Pictures, Videos and Worksheets

This is a bundle of 6 of my resources regarding angles! 5 documents are generators, which means at the click of any button you are able to generate a new worksheet. This provides a calm atmosphere in learning, familiarity in resources for students and can demonstrate progress over time. 3 of these documents are worksheet generators, which require students to find angles within polygons by viewing the polygons themselves. The easiest worksheet just regards triangles and straight lines. The medium worksheet involves quadrilaterals, simple algebra, and straight lines. Whereas the last worksheet involves a multitude of polygons. Each come with a supporting tab call a ‘cheat sheet’, containing an answer for every question listed on a separate bit of paper. These can be individually cut up and folded along the dotted line to act as supporting answers, You can use thesse at your discretion to support the least able, enabling these worksheets to be low access high challenge. Furthermore, another of these documents also requires you to find missing angles and lengths within various polygons by using algebra. Helpfully there is are hints which can either be included, or not included on the sheet, as they are on the sheet’s extremities so can easily can be cut off. Another worksheet regards angles, but this time they are entirely worded question. Testing students knowledge on exterior angles as well as interior angles this time. Finally the last document is a powerpoint involving 5 videos of me hand drawing different circle theorems. Each of the videos are silent but supported by questioning on the screen. This has proved to be a very useful tool in maximising student engagement, and getting the students to come up with the questions and answers themselves whilst watching the video, whilst you are able to help individuals or manage behaviour as required. Each of the videos, has futher suggestion points, and each can be paused and resumed at a pace that suits your class. Please review if you found useful :)

#### Sectors of Circles: Area in terms of pi.

“Show that” style questions to work out area of circle sectors. Used with my low set Year 10s, to encourage them to show their working and complete circle questions without a calculator. Simple sectors: semi-circles and quarter circles. Could be extended to work out arc length or perimeter. Repeated on second page for ease of printing A5 size.

Powerpoint and worksheet plotting coordinates on a grid (-10 to +10 axis). The picture builds up to create a castle image. Suitable for years 6 to 9 depending on ability. Once coloured in, this activity is great for making a classroom wall display. I have used this in years 7,8 and 9 they all enjoyed it, just allow more time for the younger ones to finish. Extension idea: Create your own image with coordinates on a blank grid for other pupils to try.

#### Geometry: Circles - Area, Circumference, Arcs & Sectors Exam Questions (with Answers)

#### Area of Shapes - Random Q Generator

Random Question Generator as a starter/plenary on the topic of area of shapes (rectangles, triangles, parallelograms, trapeziums). Suitable for up to 32 students (questions can be deleted where necessary). Questions are of varying levels of difficulty and can therefore be assigned to different students to differentiate by ability. When started, the slides will loop continuously until the back arrow is pressed, which will stop on a random student’s name and question. #### Functional Skills Maths Mandy's Misconceptions

Having reviewed the examiners reports for functionals skills (key quotes included) for the last 12 months and noticing common misconceptions in class I have put together 17 Functional Skills Maths revision questions.
