What Is The Route Of The Tsars - The Trans-Siberian Railway

In the late 19th century, Japan, Britain and America gained footholds on the Chinese coast as bases for their trade with China and the Orient. Russia needed to secure a foothold in the east as well as securing the vast expanses of Siberia, so in 1891 Tsar Alexander III approved a plan for a trans-continental line linking Moscow and St Petersburg with Vladivostok on the Pacific coast, as this was the only year-round ice-free port in Russia. These worksheets allow the students to study the Trans-Siberian railway, study its timeline and produce a suitable logo an slogan which could be used to advertise the journey.

geography series of lessons on modifying the landscape for water people environment social AQA OCR 9

geography series of lessons on modifying the landscape for water people environment social AQA OCR 9

All the resources for a series of lessons (4 to 5) about modifying the landscape for water. This looks at the social, economic & environmental impacts of the Elan valley to Birmingham water transfer scheme by gravity. Pupils have an information sheet (best printed in A3 & colour). This provides them with the detail that they need about the water transfer scheme. This information can be used to create a variety of work, but I find that an article works best (included) along with a SEND article sheet. There is a structured Q & sheet and subsequent SPaG sheet that I print on green paper to address the needs of most schools literacy policy. The assessment also put pupil learning into context & can be peer/self or teacher assessed. I have even included a teacher feedback sheet that is used to speed up the marking process.

great barrier reef environmental issues global warming geography lesson AQA OCR edexcel 1-9

All the resources for an entire lesson about the great barrier reef. Pupils have an information sheet (best printed in A3 & colour). This provides them with the detail that they need about why the GBR is good for people, its threats & how it is sustainably managed. This information can be used to create a variety of work, but I find that a cartoon strip works best (included). These tasks actually take about (roughly) 5 lessons to complete.

Conflict in National Parks

Conflict in National Parks

A lesson (or easily a week’s worth) on National Park conflict issues. This is based around a ‘case study’ looking at a map of a local farming area (which I made-up) to get students to consider the problems created by proposed changes in UK National Parks. Includes maps, questioning tasks, letter writing cloze exercise, word search etc. All of the worksheets are included in the powerpoint and I’ve added some notes about how I used this. Additional ones could easily be made as needed by editing slides. Initially made for an interview lesson and then adapted for teaching (once I got the post - yay!) It was made for low ability SEN students in year 9 but I think could be easily adapted (and I’ve used it with year 7 since as well so quite flexible). I found it took 2-3 lessons with mine to do it nicely. Thanks for looking :)

This Geography resource was created to be used along with ‘All about Catalonia’ to enable comparison of regions within Europe but can be used in isolation or alongside another country/region (unit of work - cover 4+ lessons). Example of ‘I can’ objectives relating to worksheets provided LO: I can research facts about Yorkshire LO: I can name the rivers of Yorkshire L.O. use co-ordinates to locate places & write co-ordinates for a given location LO: I can recognise similarities and differences between Catalonia, Spain and Yorkshire, UK LO: re-create the artwork of David Hockney Geography topic was concluded with DT - food tech, making foods from Yorkshire (& Catalonia) (23 pages of resources includes text & worksheets)

Geography KS2-All about Catalonia,Spain-Comparison of European region to local area-(unit of work)

Geography KS2-All about Catalonia,Spain-Comparison of European region to local area-(unit of work)

This resource was put together for a Year 4 Geography topic (but could be used with other year groups) & was used as a teaching resource to learn about the region of Catalonia in Spain; the resource was also printed out & used by children as a booklet, to read/research & finally create a non-fiction text (leaflet/poster), a series of worksheets provide tasks to be completed which include research challenges (as extension activities). This resource has been created to include & create potential for cross curricular activities (English, Maths, ICT, Art & DT-food tech) & would cover @ 6-8 lessons (with potential for more!). I taught with this teaching aid &ensured differentiation was possible by the level of support provided to SEN children (both by adults & peers). A selection of the related objectives covered. LO: to investigate places, patterns & to communicate geographically LO: name and locate capital cities, rivers & mountains of Spain LO: to recognise key physical & human characteristics of countries and major cities (Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain). LO: Understand the geographical similarities & differences between a region of the UK and a region of a European country. ‘I can’ statements (worksheets) LO: I can research facts about Catalonia LO: I can plan a programme of activities for a tourist LO: I know how to get to Spain/Barcelona. L.O: I know the countries I would fly over/drive through, how far it is and how long it would take. LO: I can name the major rivers and mountain regions of Spain. L.O. use co-ordinates to locate places & write co-ordinates for a given location A second resource ‘All about Yorkshire’ (local region) was created to enable a comparison between the differing locations, looking at the geographical similarities & differences (with activities mirrored).

NGSS Aligned: Simulating A United Nations Panel on Trophy Hunting

NGSS Aligned: Simulating A United Nations Panel on Trophy Hunting

B. SUGGESTED USES Prior Knowledge: Students do not necessarily require much prior knowledge. However, for students to understand, and communicate, some of the important ecological, conservationist arguments, they benefit from a conceptual understanding of food webs, ecological interactions, and natural selection. They should be able differentiate between credible and non-credible sources, and will benefit from information about effective communication/persuasion skills. Students adept in PowerPoint or Google Slides may benefit as well. Implementing the Lesson: In a class of 24 or so, I usually make 5 or 7 students judges (an odd number ensures one side wins), and the remaining students are divided up (somewhat) evenly into the pro and against positions. If there are more students than positions, I allow some positions (economist, ecologist, conservationist, and land owner) to be represented by more than one student. Because the project incorporates so many of the concepts within ecology, I spend a significant amount of time on it. I usually give students two or three classes to do research and work on their presentation (judges are working on their tasks as well). I encourage students to be pithy with their presenetion to avoid having the process last too many classes. Then, depending on the length of the presentations, and the number of questions that the judges ask during each presentation, the UN simulation can take a full class or two. I allow the presenters to begin their reflection paper in class, while the judges deliberate. Finally, the judges announce their decision, with an explanation. I allow the judges to make any decision, with any stipulations, that they deem fitting. In my experience, the students really enjoy this activity, and learn a lot about an important issue. Tourism impacting development in NIC's and LIC's (AQA and Eduqas)

As the end of the course is nearing completion this lesson is focused on condensing the course to cover the key material. This therefore is largely case study based with information from the revision guide (I have attached the specific pages if you have not purchased the guide itself). The students consolidate their learning at the end of the lesson with an examination question.
