Science Poems - 8 poems based on popular primary school science topics

Science Poems - 8 poems based on popular primary school science topics

This is a pack of eight poems I have written and used with various science topics. There are general activity suggestions for all of the poems, and specific activities for the individual poems. They can be used with both K.S.1 and K.S.2. The poems are supported by a 37 slide PPT presentation. 1) Colours Say...: a non-rhyming poem, each stanza is about a different colour 2) FIZZLE! CRACKLE!: a rhyming poem about electricity. This would be ideal for a rap 3) FIRE! FIRE!: a non-rhyming two stanza poem which describes fire, using two different viewpoints 4) Machine: a rhyming poem about the sounds and movements of a machine. This would make an excellent performance poem, and could also be used for a dance lesson 5) MAGIC ME!: a simple rhyming poem about the five senses. Ideal for an U.K.S.2 class to prepare as a performance for K.S.1 children 6) How Does an Animal Move?: a non-rhyming poem with each verse looking at the movement of a different animal 7) Sounds Around...: a rhyming poem about the sounds of everyday objects 8) A Mass of Puzzling Questions: a non-rhyming poem about space

History Presentation - Neil Armstrong (Astronaut/explorer)

History Presentation - Neil Armstrong (Astronaut/explorer)

This is a presentation on the astronaut, Neil Armstrong, who became the first man to walk on the moon. Use it as part of a lesson or for an assembly. The presentation covers Neil's childhood, his years as a pilot, becoming and astronaut and the expedition to the moon. The last part of the presentation includes some interesting questions to provoke discussion or for further exploration. Armstrong is one of the key historical figures mentioned in the KS1 curriculum, so this presentation would be perfect for introducing the explorer.

Design a Space Station: Physics of Aerodynamics, Flight & Space

Design a Space Station: Physics of Aerodynamics, Flight & Space

The “Aerodynamics, Flight & Sustainable Life” project utilizes research skills, MS PowerPoint, and Sketchup (free CAD software download) to allow students to build skills in those programs along with skills in Internet research, reading, writing and critical thinking. In these projects, students research information about the history of aerodynamics, Newton’s Laws of flight and the physics behind them. They replicate a scale model drawing of a NASA space vehicle using Sketchup (CAD) and then research and design their own space station or community that will fully sustain life in space. The project was created for grades 7-8 but could easily be adapted for younger or older students. Files Included with this Lesson • Teacher Notes and Resources • Aerodynamics History PowerPoint project Expectations and Grading Rubric • Newton’s Laws Research Questions (includes answer key) • Recreating a NASA Space Vehicle in Sketchup Project Expectations and Grading Rubric • Project Samples for NASA Vehicle • Designing a Space Station or Community in Sketchup Project Expectations and Grading Rubric • Project Samples for Space Station/Community
