What do you need to know? Reflecting on your education

What do you need to know? Reflecting on your education

Used originally for Theory of Knowledge in the IB Diploma - the learning objective is essentially for students to have the opportunity to think critically about their education system and the extent to which it is effectively preparing them for their life to come. Includes an activity linked to the TED Talk: Do schools Kill Creatively which is readily available via TED and youtube- this presentation would be a useful tutor time activity/ PSHE or Life Skills activity too.

Place Makers- Educational Tool for Teachers

Place Makers- Educational Tool for Teachers

Place Makers is an educational resource in the format of a role play game aimed at 14-18 year olds, primarily for students studying Placemaking in Geography, but it can also be used by other subjects. It shows how Town Planners in the real world discuss and negotiate with the community and other stakeholders to ensure sustainability is considered when new building development is taking place. Students will experience how to weigh up the tricky issues Town Planners face today when allocating homes and other land uses across a number of sites, listening and responding to people’s views as they work in teams with different role players. Place Makers ties this aspect of real world thinking with the secondary school curriculums in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, particularly drawing on the students’ geographical knowledge. Place Makers is due to be released in late May 2018 ready for the school summer term and will be available free for teachers. If you are teacher and would like to order this resource for your classroom, pre-register your interest in Place Makers by contacting careers@rtpi.org.uk and we can add you onto our waiting list.
