Secondary epistemology and metaphysics resources

Hi all, Here is my edexcel (new course) workbook for students to complete. This one is for Philosophy and Ethics (GCSE). Using the spec, I have created the resources containing all the key words and all sources of wisdom mentioned. They are all student friendly and contains reference of how to answer questions, including some sentence starters for the extended writing pieces. I have created booklets for all different units.

First 3 lessons for a CRE unit, philosophical investigations, skills used in RE and thinking about the 'big' questions.

This is a lesson on Critical Religious Education (Critical realism) It is about exploring worldviews and understanding everyone is starting in different places, the homework would be to ask the questionnaire to someone else. The questions are adapted from the work of the CRE team at King's College London - Credit to them for the rational and concepts of this SOW.

This is part of a unit introducing RE and the skills and process of doing it. There is a card sort for the skills in RS open ended differentiation. There is also an activity around building arguments, we didn't get to this in 45 minute lessons but it is there as an option. There is also the syllogism game I developed, this is great fun with my year 9s and some of the absurdities generated can be hilarious!

Here is the first of a half terms worth of lessons, introducing RS. The emphasis is on the skills for the subject, the nature of investigations, asking questions. Included is the work sheet, they write 'ultimate questions' in the question mark. Looks good if they do them colourful! Please note this ppt requires the free web player plugin for power point, it is really easy to install, you literally just click on 'my apps' from the menu bar when you have power point open, look for the video player and click add. I was having trouble using you tube through the power point so I started using the web player app instead. The video, if the download doesn't work, is on you tube and it is simply the trailer to 'the story of God' documentary with Morgan Freeman. Thanks!

Understanding what counts as evidence and how to evaluate evidence as strong or weak. Subjects include: categories of evidence, theories/facts/certainties, criteria for evaluating evidence and numerous examples and activities included.

14-16 or 16+. Questions and activities included. Need a copy of the film, Time Crimes for maximum impact. Subjects include: what is time? Different definitions. The logical possibility of time-travel, time-travel paradoxes, the Grandpa paradox and the causal loop problem. Clips from Time Crimes explore the causal loop problem.

This download includes 6 video-learning worksheets. They are designed for RE/RS teachers: 3 are A4 and 3 are A3, both are double-sided. Just give the students the worksheets and play a documentary or video-playlist of your choosing. They are suitable for any religion and any topic at all key-stages. Just pick a worksheet from the six for students to add to: all you need to do is occasionally pause to check learning (or adds details if they struggle to multi-task!) and maintain a bit of classroom presence to check that they are adding details. Perfectly useful for KS3, KS4 or KS5.

Will your students make the Philosophy (power) rangers set? Or will they be defeated by evil Dr. Exam. A silly game to get new students recognising some of the names and ideas behind the new Philosophy A-Level. Can you defeat hard mode? Print and play, just print off the PDF and cut into cards, then glue together each half. If you've got the budget make the game more interesting by giving each student their own set.
