THE PANDAS OF CHENGDU CHINA - WHEN NOT ALL PANDAS ARE BEARS

THE PANDAS OF CHENGDU CHINA - WHEN NOT ALL PANDAS ARE BEARS

The giant panda is one of the best loved animals. The Chines regard their pandas as national treasures. They come in great numbers to the Panda Research Centre on the outskirts of Chengdu City to look down into one of the panda enclosures, wave and take photos of their pandas. The pandas sit around, chewing their favourite bamboo bamboo stalk and seem oblivious to the attention. They are also oblivious to the fact that they are endangered. This stand alone unit will take you into the Panda Research area to see pandas large and less large. It can be used as an interest unit in primary levels and as a learning resource at secondary levels. The attached pages are provided in black and white and colour forms (PDF) for you to provide copies for class distribution. Find out why pandas are endangered and discover what is being done to protect and hopefully save them from a further decline in numbers. This unit supports ideas of sustainability.

Minibeasts: Beetle on Flower Blossom

Minibeasts: Beetle on Flower Blossom

I drew this little soft winged beetle (Malthodes minimus - Malthodes minimus) for my class after I spotted it on some blossom in a tree, on my Rydal Water walk in the Lake District, Cumbria. We used it as part of our minibeasts of Britain lessons as we explored the importance of the food chain, types of food creatures eat, habitats they live in, and role of insects in the environment. An augmented reality version of this page is available in the published book on Amazon. This will allow students to colour in the picture and then see it on their smartphone or tablet computer, along with further details from the National Curriculum. Please leave me a review and I will send you any other resource of your choice for free (contact me: office@oceansproject.com). Check out my other resources at my shop: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/sarah277 Let me know if you have any resource requests and I will tailor make a resource for you.
