These feeling charts have been created to be an interactive, frequently-used, classroom resource. The more students utilize the charts, the more the classroom as a whole and the student as an individual, will benefit. Students better understand their own emotions when they learn to identify what they are feeling; and proceed to learn how to cope with those emotions. New IEP template/Pupil Learning Passport

The file included is an updated/new IEP template which is renamed ‘Pupil Learning Passport’. It is used successfully in conjunction with face-to-face parental meetings once per term. We allocated 20-25 minutes each for the Autumn term parental meetings and 10-15 minutes each for the Spring and Summer term meetings, although longer may be needed depending on the nature of the outcomes, progress made as well as the individual circumstances surrounding the pupil . Pupil Learning Passports (PLPs) can be used for SEND, LAC and disadvantaged pupils. What does it do? Outlines personal details and SEND category/categories Links to SEND ranges Outlines the pupil’s strengths, achievements and interests ( pupil discussions are held once a year prior to the first parental meeting). Outlines external agencies involved Outlines background information (status, medical and external agencies) Incorporates pupil voice - ‘barriers to learning’ and ‘I learn best when’ States outcomes and learning targets (Autumn, Spring and Summer) Outlines provision (intervention, resources, strategies and what I can do at home to help Tracks attainment and progress data Reviews outcomes Incorporates parent views Includes details of transition Why is it more effective? One document that is updated each term for one year and the follows the pupil into future year groups One document that tracks pupil progress for their whole school career from Reception to Y6, or whenever they join your school In-line with the SEND Code of Practice 2015, incorporating parent and pupil voice and views Sections are written in conjunction with the pupil It combines IEPs and Pupil Passports removing the need for two separate documents Links directly to SEND Provision Map Saves teachers time having ‘tick box’ options in various sections All relevant information needed for referrals is in one place All relevant information in one place to ensure all staff involved with the child is aware of provision, needs, resources and strategies Acts as a transition document (class to class/teacher to teacher, across Key stages and to new schools) Overall, it replaces a lot of singular documents and creates one meaningful and multi-purpose document for SEND pupils.

This resource is designed to help learners explore barriers to becoming more independent. The resource consists of case studies and a page of visual prompts to be considered as possible ways to break down barriers to independence. E.g. role playing an activity before doing it for real or using google images to plan a route to an unfamiliar place. Both effective ways to reduce anxiety levels. Learners are required to consider up to four basic cases studies and offer advice from the options provided. Advice can be different forms depending on the level of the learner e.g. Learners can illustrate the advice, using sheet 2 as guidance, they can copy the label of the advice or they can form their own sentence(s) inspired by the options provided. The activity can be used with the key words for independence to embed literacy skills.

Match it! - emotional literacy, emotional intelligence, mental health, emotions

This is a matching game using emotions from different nationalities. Of course it has the underlying message that we all feel emotions no matter who you are, where you live or whatever your skin colour is. Included in the pack: A game board A feelings mat in colour and black and white worksheets covering all the emotions shown in boy version and girl version Each child throws a die and moves that number of places. If they land on a ‘child’ they must match that emotion to their mat. They can circle it on their mat with a dry wipe pen. Encourage them to name the emotion. This could be extended to ‘Tell me a time when you felt like that’. If they land on an instruction then they must move that number of places either forwards or backwards. The winner is the person who has circled the most emotions on their mat when everyone has reached the end of the game board. The feelings mat could also be used as an emotional register or a prompt for including emotions in their writing. There is a set of worksheets for each emotion (boy and girl version) to explore the child’s emotion in more detail. It is simply drawing a picture and writing a sentence or two.

Emotions Intervention - Mental Health, emotional intelligence, emotional literacy

This intervention is written for a group of six children and is led by an ELSA or teaching assistant. It covers recognising, labelling and expressing the six basic emotions. It is written for children from 4-7 but could also be useful for children with autism or special needs. The sessions last for approximately 40 to 60 minutes. The intervention covers the six basic emotions of happy, sad, angry, scared, surprised and disgusted. A pre and post assessment is filled in by the class teacher at the beginning and end of the intervention. The assessments we use are enclosed with this pack. These assessments cover other areas of emotional literacy and social skills but are a good indicator of any other problems that the child may have. Please choose which ones you want to use. You may have other generic assessments that you use but it is important to try and track progress however you choose to do it. Often when a child takes part in this type of intervention other skills are developed too. For example social skills, sharing, co-operating, teamwork and self-esteem to name a few. It is a good idea to keep a book, like a learning journey to stick the children’s work in. This is a brilliant way of sharing with parents and teachers things that the children are doing with you. All the paper resources are included in this pack. You will need a large sheet of paper for week 6 and a cuddly teddy and hoops for week 2. Learning objectives are as follows: I can recognise and name the six basic emotions I can understand the reasons why I might feel different emotions I can give examples of when I felt happy and sad I can give examples of when I felt angry and scared I can give examples of when I felt surprised and disgusted I can tell you about some of the physical sensations I get when I feel an emotion
