New IEP template/Pupil Learning Passport

New IEP template/Pupil Learning Passport

The file included is an updated/new IEP template which is renamed ‘Pupil Learning Passport’. It is used successfully in conjunction with face-to-face parental meetings once per term. We allocated 20-25 minutes each for the Autumn term parental meetings and 10-15 minutes each for the Spring and Summer term meetings, although longer may be needed depending on the nature of the outcomes, progress made as well as the individual circumstances surrounding the pupil . Pupil Learning Passports (PLPs) can be used for SEND, LAC and disadvantaged pupils. What does it do? Outlines personal details and SEND category/categories Links to SEND ranges Outlines the pupil’s strengths, achievements and interests ( pupil discussions are held once a year prior to the first parental meeting). Outlines external agencies involved Outlines background information (status, medical and external agencies) Incorporates pupil voice - ‘barriers to learning’ and ‘I learn best when’ States outcomes and learning targets (Autumn, Spring and Summer) Outlines provision (intervention, resources, strategies and what I can do at home to help Tracks attainment and progress data Reviews outcomes Incorporates parent views Includes details of transition Why is it more effective? One document that is updated each term for one year and the follows the pupil into future year groups One document that tracks pupil progress for their whole school career from Reception to Y6, or whenever they join your school In-line with the SEND Code of Practice 2015, incorporating parent and pupil voice and views Sections are written in conjunction with the pupil It combines IEPs and Pupil Passports removing the need for two separate documents Links directly to SEND Provision Map Saves teachers time having ‘tick box’ options in various sections All relevant information needed for referrals is in one place All relevant information in one place to ensure all staff involved with the child is aware of provision, needs, resources and strategies Acts as a transition document (class to class/teacher to teacher, across Key stages and to new schools) Overall, it replaces a lot of singular documents and creates one meaningful and multi-purpose document for SEND pupils.

The Alphabet Nativity Play; Perfect for special needs, pre-school,primary, all age and inclusion

The Alphabet Nativity Play; Perfect for special needs, pre-school,primary, all age and inclusion

This script is perfect for VISUAL LEARNERS as it is narrated in rhyme as an alphabet poem 26 key words represented by an illustrated letter which is displayed when the keyword is mentioned. Perfect for SPECIAL NEEDS, especially HEARING IMPAIRED as actions are included for the children to do together to represent the word. The story can be ‘walked through’ by actors without speaking parts, although the script also includes 9 simple optional songs too, some of which offer opportunities for character solos if you choose to use them in that way. The songs that are included are particularly well suited for young children, using familiar children's tunes with very simple repetitive lyrics. The lack of necessary stage movement would make it ideal for GROUPS WITH DISABILITIES. Doing the actions as a group would be well suited to any individuals who don’t like the personal pressure or attention of a ‘performance’. The script is easier for THOSE WITH MEMORY PROBLEMS, as the illustrated letters act as a visual prompt and the option of including the 'Action Superstar' can act as a demonstration for the group to copy. There is also an option (which is great fun and I highly recommend) of including an ‘Instructor’ who interacts with the audience in a pantomime style and the already mentioned ‘Action Superstar’ who demonstrates each of the actions to the 26 keywords mentioned during the story. This would make it perfect to PERFORM TO OR AS A WHOLE SCHOOL with the instructor getting the rest of the children to join in, assuming you have someone confident enough to take the instructor role. The Instructor, a sort of pantomime style character, holds signs up for the audience at the appropriate moments (or for the rest of the children/choir etc) to say (‘NO’, ‘AH!’ ‘SH’ etc). In true pantomime style, the response isn’t good enough and the Instructor, also using rhyme and rhythm, tells them so (eg, “That really isn’t good enough…let’s have another ‘ah!’ Remember, he’s the cutest baby that you’ve seen by far!”) I have included a large portion of the script as a preview below to give you a feel of how it will work, together with a copy of the free alphabet poem which is included with the script. The script itself can be obtained from my website www.bestchildrensnativity.com for £9.95 and includes the instantly downloadable script, 9 simple songs using familiar childrens tunes and easily remembered words, sheet music plus mp3 backing tracks, the free Christmas Story Alphabet Poem, and my trademark Alphabet Nativity Roll Call Poem, which gives everyone the opportunity to stand and take a bow and respond in 'register' style. This is a great opportunity to include several aspects and forms of poetry in your curriculum (eg. alphabet poem, story poem, a play in rhyme and rhythm, using nursery rhyme tunes for the songs) and can be used for INCLUSION OF ALL AGES AND ABILITIES AND SPECIAL NEEDS.

Macbeth, Act 1 (Adapted) and activities

Macbeth, Act 1 (Adapted) and activities

Macbeth - A specially adapted version of Macbeth - Act 1 and activities. I wanted to adapt Macbeth so that Special Ed students could study - and enjoy the play. (I'm on a quest to get the classics into special ed classrooms). I have kept the plot, character motivation, scenes etc - and even a bit of rhyme, but it is in simplified language. Because of this, the resource is also ideal for ANY student studying the play as it simplifies the plot so they can understand what's happening and compare it with the difficult to read Elizabethan original. It will be easier for them to grasp what happens in each scene then as the language is always tricky for anyone reading the play. It's also suitable for adult literacy classes and ESOL classes. This is a complete unit of study of Act 1. (The rest of the acts will follow soon). This resource includes - * 27 power point slides (illustrated) with the adapted text of Macbeth. * 35 short answer question quiz, covering all 7 scenes of act 1 (multiple choice, true/false, missing word). * Answer sheet. * Class discussion sheet - Consequence and conscience, further discussion questions, highlighting activity. * Activity sheet - Write a letter. * Activity sheet - Draw a poster. * Handout - PDF of presentation slides to print off (I print it off in grey scale). * Role play activity. * Peer performance record sheet. * Self evaluation sheet. * Handout - recap of Act 1 - Some questions to think about.
