This presentation illustrates the second function of how the present participle is used in terms of how something is done in the context of accidents, injuries and misfortune. Once again, it also illustrates how it is formed with non-reflexive verbs, reflexive verbs and negatives. This would be very ideal for students who are studying IGCSE French, A-Level French and adults who are simply studying french for the first time or revision. The concept of the present participle appears in Unit 9 of the Cambridge IGCSE course and this activity also introduces names of injuries or ailments and the concept of non-agreement with reflexive verbs in the past form with direct objects. J'ai mal - introduction and practice

Use this PPT to introduce parts of the body (I've included a lot!). There's a simple introduction to parts of the body to begin with. Then discuss with them what techniques will they use to remember each word. Pupils always come up with some interesting ideas… As long as they work! Then, show the picture before the word to see what they remember. Afterwards, in pairs, pupils take it in turns to throw the dice and then use the clues to complete the sentence (e.g. 'On marche avec...'). Then, go through the grammar point to say where it hurts. Pupils then complete the matching worksheet. To finish, play Connect 4 as a class. Each team takes it in turns to choose a phrase to translate into French. If they’re right, click on the relevant coloured dot to change the colour of the box to their team’s colour. 1 point for 4 in a row and 2 points for 5 in a row.

Tenses and Translations practice in French with the topic of health and illnesses

This progressive resource is aimed at students learning French at low and higher levels. It contains a list of regular and irregular verbs related to the health-illnesses topic. The conjugation of irregular verbs and verbs with spelling changes is included. Students can refer to it when doing the activities. The tenses used in the exercices are: present, perfect, imperfect, future, conditional and pluperfect. Students can fill the gaps with just the tense you are studying. I have also included the answers in French as well as in English so that the resource can be used to practice translating (some notes were added to help doing just that). This resource allows me to check the progress of my students: Once they master the present, perfect, imperfect and future, I ask them to do the conditional and pluperfect tenses exercices. The game 'Translate and reveal the French expression' can be used as homework or pair work (all tenses are needed except the pluperfect).
