French Writing Journal

French Writing Journal

Bulletin Journals are a creative and fun way to engage students in writing. Taking inspiration from Pinterest, I put together these four sheets which cover topics such as : Food/drink, chores, school subjects, daily routine, holidays (past and future) then a more creative sheet where students fill their 'Happiness Box' (with nouns) and list the things they would like to learn (using verbs). I plan to use this as a Writing Assessment. There is scope for all levels of ability in this task. The pages can be used individually or as a booklet. I plan to use the 'Ma Vie' sheet as the 1st page and the ' Boîte à Bonheur' sheet as the back page with the other two sheets in the middle. I have now added the assessment sheet to accompany the journal.

Routine and Shopping

Routine and Shopping

This is a comprehensive PPT presentation on Routine and Shopping for food with 35 slides. It starts with a presentation of various daily routine actions and moves on to the grammar rule and some some practice on reflexive verbs in the present tense. Two slides contain questions about routine with different tenses which provide an excellent practice for the GCSE general conversation. It also covers shopping for food and the partitive articles. This PPT is interactive so students have the opportunity to provide the answers and participate. Its aim is to consolidate and extend students' knowledge on routine and shopping for food.

French Food Vocabulary : Revision Worksheet and Test

French Food Vocabulary : Revision Worksheet and Test

Worksheet to practice and revise basic food vocabulary (16 items). Pupils should look, say, cover, and write each word before checking that they have spelt it correctly. You can also easily adapt the resource by asking them to fill in the second column without looking at the French word so that the exercise becomes a vocabulary test too. A test is also provided to check pupils' learning. I have found this exercise particularly effective with low ability groups and pupils with SEN to assist them in correctly spelling the target language.

Daily routine: Simba's Day

Daily routine: Simba's Day

An extended activity that could take up to a whole lesson, depending on the students' level of French. Designed to reinforce the Daily Routine topic in a slightly more entertaining way. Students read the text and fill in the gaps using words from a list. They then complete two more activities: answering reading comprehension questions in English, and doing a multiple-choice exercise in French. NB: The two files are an EASY and a CHALLENGING version of the same thing; see what suits your class best. A good challenge for KS3. May be suitable for lower-achievement KS4. I follow this up by making them pick a cartoon/book character and write about his or her day in a creative way.

French - Daily routine & time class dominoes

French - Daily routine & time class dominoes

This is a really fun activity to do with a whole class! If they have the phrase that's just been said in one language, they stand up and say it in the opposite language. They then say the second phrase they have on their card. By the end of the activity, everyone in the class should have said a phrase in French about daily routine and time. Full instructions are on the bottom of the document.
