Escape Rooms have students walking around the classroom breaking codes. Code names and secret missions are different in every escape room! The codes include ciphers, Morse code, cryptograms and a final 4 digit lock combination based on the four decoders/clues. They will learn about historical women and their impact on the world as well as the basic jobs of the branches of government. Lastly, students will learn about the contributions of MLK and why the Civil War was fought. The use of secret code will keep your students engaged while competing to find the final lock combination. No props needed!! Students can report the final lock combination to you. If you wanted to, you could purchase a 4 digit lock that you program, but it is not necessary at all! The best age range for this resource is 8+. Please look at the preview to determine if this resource works for your age group. Younger students may need some help with some of the more difficult codes. The Declaration of Independence is of higher difficulty than the rest...CHALLENGE your students! A set of labeled and non-labeled decoders are included with each escape room. An answer key and teacher directions are provided for each escape room. Time needed: 30-60 minutes/escape room Save 20% with this BUNDLE!

Creative and Persuasive Writing, and Comprehension Lesson

Creative and Persuasive Writing, and Comprehension Lesson

Ernie, the small Spanish snail, has left his home and family behind to pursue his dream of finding a paradise snail garden. Pretend you are Ernie and write a letter back home to your family. Try to explain to them why it means so much to you that you gave up everything to go in search of it, and convince them to join you in the paradise garden. Read through a chapter of the book, explore the topic, answer questions and discuss, in preparation for a creative piece that will not only strengthen literacy skills and persuasive writing, but will build upon self awareness and communication through writing. Included in the lesson in a whole chapter from the book 'Ernie Gonzales: The Determined Dreamer', in which Ernie describes, in detail, what his dream is, his love of his grandpa, Manuel; the very person who inspired his dream, his relationship to the rest of his family and how their opinion of him was a factor in him leaving home. Teacher's notes contains questions/points to discuss, written by the author, to guide the pupils to create a letter, written from the point of view of Ernie to his family back home, explaining to them why it meant so much to him to set out of such a daring, and uncertain, journey to reach an Olive Garden that only he, and his grandpa, believes exists. Also the pupils should strive convince his family to get behind his dream and join him for a better life in the paradise garden that he hopes to find. Includes; 'Ernie's Letter' worksheet that pupils may wish to use for their final draft, Teacher's notes and whole chapter from the book. Also includes original images from the book.
