"Fee-Fi-Fo-Fum!" Are you ready for some figurative language fun? In this unit, students will read seven beloved fairy tales and analyze story elements. Each child will also illustrate a flip book focusing on figurative language found throughout the story.

Wonder is an inspirational novel about a ten year old boy named August who was born with a face abnormality that frightens people when they look at him. Due to numerous surgeries and health issues, August has been home schooled his entire life. But, this school year is different because his parents realize that it is time for August to face a world that isn't always kind to people who are different.
This 129 page unit contains comprehension questions, vocabulary work, extension activities, bully bingo, precept posters to hang in your classroom, a writing project, and a Picasso inspired art project.

*Cootie Catcher: Everyone loves Cootie Catchers! Cootie catchers are a fun origami craft that can also serve to teach your children vocabulary in a creative, hands-on way.
*Vocabulary Checkers: Sentences are important in this game. In order for a player to move a checker, the BFG word has to be used correctly in a sentence.

Gregor the Overland Novel Study
Like many of you, I love the Hunger Games! After reading the trilogy, I found myself craving more literature by Suzanne Collins. Immediately, I started researching Suzanne Collins and discovered that before she wrote the Hunger Games, she wrote a series for children called the Underland Chronicles. Being a fourth grade teacher, I thought, “This is perfect!” That weekend I purchased Gregor the Overlander and I was instantly hooked!
Gregor the Overlander is the story of an eleven year old boy who follows his little sister through a metal grate in their laundry room in New York City. Similar to Alice in Wonderland, Gregor and his sister plummet to a magical land filled with adventure.
My students LOVED this novel! While reading the book, one of my kiddos asked me why I always stop at the good parts. I explained that I simply stop at the end of the chapter each day.
