Myths and Legends - St George: English Comprehension and Interactive PowerPoint

Myths and Legends - St George: English Comprehension and Interactive PowerPoint

There is enough material here for more than one lesson on myths and legends. An interactive PowerPoint shows the difference between myth and legend. The second slide has six flags of St George, which, when clicked, reveal a Raphael painting of St George and the dragon. At the end of the show, pupils are asked to read the accompanying comprehension text, decide whether St George and the Dragon is a myth or a legend, and to write their answer. The comprehension text is marked out of 20. A mark scheme is supplied.

EUROPEAN CAVE PAINTINGS

EUROPEAN CAVE PAINTINGS

LANDSCAPE PAINTING - EUROPEAN CAVE PAINTINGS: This resource offers a complete unit of Art and Design ideas with cross curricular links that enables students to extend their knowledge about Paleolithic Man. Every landscape is unique in terms of its physical appearance and any effect of human presence upon it. This project centres on the ‘European Landscape’, and we focus our studies on three major cave painting systems; Chauvet Caves; located in France, Lascaux Caves; also located in France, and the Cave of Altamira; located in Spain. We begin by establishing a Base Line of understanding. A ‘CAVE PAINTINGS – QUESTIONS’ Power point is included. Students should consider the questions – discuss their thoughts and ideas – then makes notes of their present answers. Later, as their knowledge deepens, they should return to these notes and revise their answers – as appropriate. An 18-clip Power Point presentation has been included that highlights interesting facts about the three cave systems [not to be watched in one sitting]. There is also a 22 page set of Illustrated Notes that covers the Power Point facts – with extended notes about conservation. There is a resource that looks at the period of time when the Chauvet, Lascaux and Altamira cave paintings were produced. It places the paintings on a time line and touches on the development of Palaeolithic man. There is a resource that looks at the colours that have been found in the caves and how these colours were resourced and made. It then explains how the eye sees colour and how low light levels affect the colours we see. We then look at the way Palaeolithic man made the tools that created the cave paintings. This complete unit of work with cross curriculum links to; HISTORY, ART & DESIGN, SCIENCE, DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY & GEOGRAPHY. It is suitable for KS2 & KS3 students.

Themes: This set showcases a variety of themes including but not limited to architecture, designs, mummies, idols, artifacts, tools, pottery, calendars, and more! Background: While viewing public domain images for references, I found myself in awe of the beauty, precision, and uniqueness of these spectacular images. It seemed to be a shame that many of these timeless images would go unseen when they had so much to offer students and teachers. While there were many fantastic pictures available, most needed a variety of edits and touch-up work to be suited for reuse. I decided it would be worthwhile to restore and share my "Found Treasures" in a format that would be better suited for projects .
