MEKONG RIVER STUDY PART 1 - LIFE ON AND AROUND THE CAI BE PORT IN VIETNAM

MEKONG RIVER STUDY PART 1 - LIFE ON AND AROUND THE CAI BE PORT IN VIETNAM

This unit has a focus on life around the port of Cai Be - Vietnam. This settlement depends on the water within the Mekong system. The water level varies during the year - being at its height when the Mekong has greater flow levels. The residents around the water's edge and those living in boats on the water adapt to the water conditions. Sample studies of a small scale family business are included because they represent the dozens of enterprises within the settlement. But Cai Be is also a tourist attraction. It is a destination for tourist companies bringing visitors from Ho Chi Minh City. Others reach the destination by taking side excursions off Mekong River Cruises. Take your students on a boat ride through the port. Find out how one small company uses the resources from the Mekong floodplain. Venture into the side channel and see the larger processing factories. The attachments provide an opportunity to distribute hard copies. This is part 1 of a series of studies on the Mekong River - a major river of South East Asia

STEAM Thinking - Analyzing Bridges

STEAM Thinking - Analyzing Bridges

Note: Some of my products have some “out there” ideas. Make sure to look at the preview before purchasing. Everyone's classroom is unique and while these lessons work within my classroom, that may not be the case in another’s room. "You're begging me for a brand new start, Trying to mend a bridge that's been blown apart, But you know you never built it dad." (Bridge by Queensryche) As with any teacher, I’m always looking to create new and innovative ways to reach my students, grasp their attention and motivate them in new and meaningful ways. One manner in which I have had great success in reaching my teenagers of the digital age are my video game and writing creations. My newest creation combines a multitude of thinking and writing activities, inspired by the wonderful video game Bridge Constructor, created by the phenomenal game developer, Headup Games. This guide allows the students to think on high levels, as they will need to analyze mistakes made in my bridge designs, while proposing their own structural idea. The students will also review concepts relative to basic components of a bridge, along with Newton’s Laws of Motion. If one chooses to take this constructive journey, they may find it helpful to follow how I use this with my classes. Review Newton’s Laws of Motion. Give the students a printout of the basic bridge parts and forces/loads. Once you’ve given/reviewed the above basics, you can following the format below: Watch my poor bridge design video Complete the “Defining the Problem” page Complete the Visualize/Create page Watch my second bridge design video and complete the Evaluation page Complete the Analyze/Refine writing prompt Complete the Newton’s Laws page (the first bridge has been started done for you) Complete the bridge parts labels page ***Continue this process through each of the 8 bridges → Included in the Guide 3 Terms of Use 4 Core Standards 5 About the Guide 6 Recommendations for Teaching 7 Newton’s Laws of Motion 8 - 9 Bridge Basics 10 Bridge Components 11 - 17 Bridge 1 - West to East 18 - 24 Bridge 2 - The Valley 25 - 31 Bridge 3 - Really Big Valley 32 - 38 Bridge 4 - Over Troubled Water 39 - 45 Bridge 5 - Canyon Run 46 - 52 Bridge 6 - City to City 53 - 59 Bridge 7 - Insanity Ridge 60 - 66 Bridge 8 - Without a Paddle 67 - 76 Differentiation Writing Prompt - Bridge 77 References

Wheels Go Round - Video Song Pack for your KS1 Transport/Vehicle?Travel/Family Topic

This digital song pack is the ideal musical accompaniment to your cross-curricular Transport topic. We are literally saving you from ever having to sing The Wheels on the Bus ever again! This original song is contemporary, upbeat and super-easy to learn. It's ideal for EY/Reception all through KS1. The signs/actions are great fun and the silly lyrics include signs for family members as well as different modes of transport. The song pack includes a teaching video for Interactive Whiteboard (IWB) screen or any device which shows songwriter Al Start singing & signing the song and a simple shaker part if you want to include a little percussion into the mix. Lyric and chord sheets plus the audio track itself mean you can take it off-screen when the children have learned the song, and play or sing along in assembly or a show. This is another of our most requested songs, see the Teaching Notes for additional lesson plan suggestions and ideas for taking things further. Simply play the video to the children and they will copy their parts. No musical experience needed to teach this as a music lesson or add it to your topic as part of your learning journey; let us take the stress out of music teaching!

Interactive reveal quiz template

Interactive reveal quiz template

This is an interactive PowerPoint template that allows people to create reveal quizzes with scoring - it uses macros and so sadly will only work on PCs and they need to be enabled when the PowerPoint is run. A sample quiz of famous landmarks is included to demonstrate how it works. When using the template add pictures to the PowerPoint slides and then cover these pictures with autoshapes (rectangles, ovals, stars etc) and for each covering shape type on a points value - the more important what the shape covers the higher the number of points. Instructions are given on slide 3 too. This is the first version of this template so please send me constructive feedback, including ways it can be enhanced.
