Complete lesson looking at the difficulties associated with space travel, how they can be overcome and NASA's project to launch a manned mission to mars. This 18 slide lesson contains: theory, questions, answers, paired work, gap fill, carefully selected video, literacy, high quality images throughout etc. Good lesson and great value for money. Objectives: 1) To understand some of the problems with putting people into space. 2) Explain how these problems can be overcome. 3) Form your own opinion on whether it is worth sending people to mars. For use in KS3 and for lower and middle ability groups in KS4. ‘‘ECLIPSES’’ - STUDENT OUTCOMES: By the end of the lesson students will be able to: * Understand new key words such as eclipse, umbra, penumbra etc. * Understand what solar and lunar eclipses are. * Be able to explain what happens during a solar and lunar eclipse * Be able to draw diagrams of a solar and a lunar eclipse. STARTER Pupils will start the lessons by thinking and working in pairs and doing a mini quiz. After discussion of the answers this leads on to revealing the title and lesson outcomes, students then self assess their current understanding of what this lesson is going to cover. MAIN and MAIN and MAIN.... This lesson is chunked into discrete sections to support learning and engender positive behaviour by keeping students interested and focused. Wordsearch on the theme of 'Fictional Planets'. Powerpoint so can be used on the board or printed as a worksheet. Includes space for students to explain the keywords and suggested extension activities. Can take 10 minutes or an hour, depending on which activities the students complete. Ideal for the start of a lesson, a quick filler, a homework, part of a cover lesson or as a plenary on the board with a whiteboard pen. The idea behind these is to get students to become more literate and think independently about the words that could be used to describe the topic being taught.
