Festivals and Celebrations bundle (to be updated)

Festivals and Celebrations bundle (to be updated)

This bundle includes a collection of several lessons created for few international celebrations such as Christmas and Easter as well as some traditional Spanish Festivals (e.g. La Tomatina). I have tried to use some videos and games to make it more engaging whilst still providing students with some grammar / AQA GCSE exam practice.

GCSE Spanish Revision Blockbusters

GCSE Spanish Revision Blockbusters

A resource made for a revision day, which could be used in a number of ways. Primarily the idea is to play Blockbusters, once laminated and stuck to a whiteboard. You could use them to categorise, or any number of different activities. I’ve used capital letters for phrases and lower case where I have taken out the vowels. Slide 1 is a vocabulary sheet they could look at for a minute to memorise before you start.

Famous Latinos Communicative Activity

Famous Latinos Communicative Activity

Students are given the identity of a famous Latino. Their goal is to talk to other students to figure out what their name is (¿Cómo te llamas?), how old they are (¿Cuántos años tienes?), where they are from (¿De dónde eres?), and what they are famous for (¿Porque eres famoso?). Students then respond to these questions according the the famous latino they are assigned, and copy down the responses of their peers. Can be easily extended where students go home and write down more information about the person they were assigned, create an instagram page for the person they received, etc. Heavy focus on communication on basic spanish questions, and writing in the third person - mixed with culture.

El Domingo de Pascua (SMSC - Cultural) Spanish (AQA) KS3/ KS4 lesson

El Domingo de Pascua (SMSC - Cultural) Spanish (AQA) KS3/ KS4 lesson

This is an Easter lesson that I created for my higher KS3/KS4 Spanish students. The idea is to have some fun and to do some writing as well! The lesson starts with a friendly - easy starter, lesson plan and pronunciation slide to learn how to pronounce some Easter related words. Then we move on to a quizlet task to learn / revise some Easter vocabulary and Rally Coach activity to check whether we remember the words (translation practice). I have then included a conjugation activity with some verbs (you need some dices!) followed by a competitive translation activity (make sure you have similar ability students working together). The students then use a trap door structure (table) to speak about their Easter day and then I tell them about my Easter day in a similar manner as suggested by previous activity. I first use pictures only and then show them the model answer and the grammar success criteria. After they write down their responses we move on to playing quizlet live and Hangman. Enjoy!

la investigación de un crimen-preterite V imperfect

la investigación de un crimen-preterite V imperfect

This is not quite finished so if I develop it further I will add. My Y9s are really getting in to it and they absolutely love the crime scene investigation. I haven’t added a crime scene document because you will have to create that yourself depending on how much time and effort you want to put in but I have explained what I do in the ppt notes. It says things like -they found fingerprints on a bottle of wine left on the table-there was a …under the bed-and in fact it isn’t under the bed it is somewhere else in the room- for things like the bed- I place photos in the room-I then have a glass with lipstick on it-I have a fingerprint kit-costs £4-I have crime scene tape, and chalk-again cheap- toy murder weapon-or in this case some fake pearls from charity shop. So you see you can set it up as you like and use whatever props you like. In previous years I have got them to act out the inspector interviewing them-so where were you at, what were you doing when, what did you do between…and, What is missing is who actually killed Luisa- I always have an idea but the best activity is when the students decide and you write the ending together. In my version Carmen was the intended victim even though she is pregnant and the murderer was Felipe- he found out that she was pregnant with someone else’s child and acted out of jealousy-he also didn’t want his plans to marry Luisa to be ruined by Carmen lying to her husband and telling him that the baby is Felipe’s, something she told Felipe she would do if he didn’t help her get away from Don Navarro. Hope someone out there wants to have a go and like I say it is ripe for adaptation.

KS3/4 - Writing Exam Training SOS for Struggling Students (for GCSE - Edexcel/AQA)

KS3/4 - Writing Exam Training SOS for Struggling Students (for GCSE - Edexcel/AQA)

N.B. This lesson is designed to work in preparation for/immediately after a mock Spanish Writing Exam, with particular reference to open-response style questions. The question created for the lesson relates to the Edexcel exam board, but this lesson can be equally used in preparation for composing open-responses for the AQA exam board. It should be noted that as this lesson focuses on developing lower-ability students’ capacity to write, as well as building up their self-esteem, word limit have been intentionally left out. Lesson includes step-by-step activities to get students accustomed and prepared for different parts of the exam, including understanding the instructions, working out which tenses to use, learning formula to use in the exam etc. Slides include tips and advice for students as well as teachers. Differentiation provided in slides, including support for lower ability and extension tasks. Open-response writing is a component of both the Foundation and Higher tier papers. This can easily be used with upper KS3 or KS4. Lesson is up-to-date and corresponds to the new Grades 9-1 GCSE. Lesson provides a ‘Writing Support Sheet’ for students to use as a resource in their book. This will help them use key verbal phrases in past, present and future tenses, which helps them gain higher marks for linguistic accuracy as per the GCSE mark schemes (if students do not successfully reference past, present and future, they are restricted to 2 marks). All printable resources are included as hidden slides in the lesson PowerPoint. The exam questions relate to the topics of free time and sport. Please note than SAMs (Sample Assessment Materials) and general handbooks which provide relevant mark schemes for Edexcel and AQA are available free-of-charge on their Websites.
