( (Reading from a charts and calculating) Task 4:- Use the information about the different stadiums to be used in the world cup below to fill in the table. (collecting data, reprsenting data and finding averages) Task 5- How many minutes will they play? (time addition, reading diagrams) Task 6: How far each nation will have to travel during the Group Stages? (conversion of km to miles, speed distance time, collecting data) Each task gets slightly harder - Great project for pupils to start whilst the world cup is on! End of Term "News and General Knowledge Quiz" (January - June 2018)

End of Term "News and General Knowledge Quiz" (January - June 2018)

Sport - Music - Films - Places - History - Comics - Characters - Games etc. This is huge and this is going to be fun! Teachers, are you at a loss as to what to do in the final days leading up to the end of term and the onset of the summer break? Look no further, this is a quiz your class will enjoy. Tried and tested on Year 5 through to Year 8. Quite suitable for older students … and staff. Fun end-of-term quiz testing both general knowledge and events in the news from January to June 2018 This news/general knowledge quiz can be enjoyed by competing as an individual or in teams. Let’s keep it simple – get yourselves a sheet of paper for your answers and grab a pen or pencil. All your teacher needs to do is either go through all of the questions chronologically or alternatively each person/group can choose a month and a number from 1 – 21. All participants / groups must then answer the question that appears once the selected button has been clicked. A ‘back’ takes you back to the question selection page. Some of the questions involve only one answer needed whilst much of this quiz involves multiple questions. Your teacher will give you time to discuss and then to write down your answer if working in teams. You can even stretch the Quiz over a few days. The answers to all of the questions can be downloaded from the TES website. There will be a full year quiz available towards the end of 2018 with loads more interesting and challenging questions!

WORLD CUP COUNTRIES QUIZ

WORLD CUP COUNTRIES QUIZ

Create an instant introduction to the teams participating in WORLD CUP 2018 and help your students develop their awareness of world countries, capital cities and flags with this whole-group presentation and quiz. There are 32 countries featured in the quiz. Each country is presented individually with its capital city and flag - as you show the slides, encourage students to shout out the country names as they appear - this tends to aid memory! The presentation is followed by a series of 55 questions. The questions are structured slightly differently to differentiate the challenge a little. Some questions focus on the particular country and flag, and some also look at the capital cities of those countries. The quiz works particularly well with several teams - encourage each team to choose a world cup-themed team name. Teams can either take it in turns to answer a question, but it’s also great fun, and keeps up a lively pace, to play as a SHOUT IT OUT! quiz - whoever shouts out the correct answer first wins the point! Present each country and flag quickly first - there are usually a certain number of countries and flags which students may not know, or be unaware of. The quiz is not editable because of the flags TERMS OF USE - each question slide is followed by the relevant answer slide - simply click, and it appears! The resource is copyright, and for single-teacher / classroom / purchaser use only. Multiple-user and whole-school licenses are available. THANKS!

Matariki - Mu Torere (A Traditional Maori Board Game)

Matariki - Mu Torere (A Traditional Maori Board Game)

Mu torere is said to be the only native board game of the Maori. It is played on the points and centre of an 8-pointed star, by two players with four pieces each. The object of the game is to block your opponent so they cannot move. Mu Torere is the perfect game to celebrate Matariki, or Waitangi Day, especially if it is raining. I also put the boards in my math game area for my math rotations and early finishers. I have included 2 different game boards. First ,the traditional star board and the other being more of a wheel design (My students seem to prefer this one) Further I have included some counters for it (Or just use your plastic ones). Oh yes I have included instructions on how to play. Simply print, cut and laminate for a long lasting resource. I laminate the game board on one side and the instructions on the other.

Shelf Life Pack: Chelsea Physic Garden

Shelf Life Pack: Chelsea Physic Garden

https://www.chelseaphysicgarden.co.uk/teaching-resources Shelf Life The Shelf Life resource pack is a cross curricular resource for teachers of pupils at all ages. Shelf Life is a collection of plants growing in the packaging of foods, drinks, cosmetics and medicines. Examples include a tomato plant growing from a bottle of tomato ketchup, wheat from a bag of bread, an orange plant from a carton of orange juice or a willow sapling from an aspirin bottle. It is a reminder of our reliance upon nature and prompts you to ask the question: How many plants have I used today? 15 years ago, Shelf Life was devised by Chelsea Physic Garden’s Education Department to illustrate the diversity of the plant kingdom and also to make the link between our everyday products and their plant origins. Many of the younger visitors to Chelsea Physic Garden (around 2,500 per year) are very surprised – and often quite disgusted – that their meals may have come from plants. When they see tomatoes in a ketchup bottle, potatoes growing in a crisp packet and mint in a toothpaste tube, the message sinks in. Our Shelf Life Resource Pack includes: • Information about 22 plants in our everyday lives - with plant profiles and tips on how to grow them and create your very own display • Games to try out • Curriculum-linked ideas and activities (e.g. the history of slavery and the evolution of packaging) • An extensive bibliography of links and suggested reading We have split the pack into 5 volumes This resource aims to encourage schools to grow their own Shelf Life and provides information about how to do this. There is background information on some easily-sourced and commonly found plants (growing tips and profiles - including all sorts of facts - botany, history, geography, food and nutrition and links to art, music and literature) in Volumes1, 2 and 3. In Volume 4 there are suggestions of classroom based activities to link Shelf Life with the curriculum at every key stage. In Volume 5 are suggestions of classroom based games to link Shelf Life with the curriculum at every key stage. • Volume 1: Aloe to Citrus (PDF/9.5MB) • Volume 2: Cotton to Peanut (PDF/7.6MB) • Volume 3: Pineapple to Wheat (PDF/8.8MB) • Volume 4: Activities section (PDF/7MB) • Volume 5: Games section (PDF/5MB) We welcome your feedback on these.

I’ve designed this as an ongoing resource to be returned to every regularly for the duration of the World Cup tournament. It comes with a powerpoint that has all the participating teams on it. If you play the powerpoint then the images will quickly change. Press “S” and the slideshow will stop on a team. Press “S” again to re-start the slideshow. Using this method, each child can randomly select a team to follow. This team will also feature in their booklet as a research project. The booklet starts with a page about the hosts of the tournament, Russia. It’s a research activity and so access to computers or books is helpful. Next we look at the geography of Russia and the location of the stadiums. There are two sheets here which look identical but are not. One is aimed at a higher level than the other and this is distinguished by the World Cup icon in the top right. All future differentiated sheets for the higher ability have this icon. Then we have the history of the tournament and again a differentiated version for lower ability students. Following is a picture quiz where students have to name the winners of the previous tournaments. Next is a research project where students are asked to design a poster for their previously selected team. There is a differentiated version for lower ability students with a number of prompt questions to help with research. The next sheets each relate to the England football team. The tasks are to create a song/rap or chant, to design their football kit. Next is an art project looking at the work of Wassily Kandinsky, a famous Russian artist with a particularly bright and vivid style. Students are asked to reproduce his work and this can be extended to adapt a football picture into his style of work and a blank canvas for the truly creative. There then follows a focus on five famous players with an attached fact file and a drawing to colour in. Once this is completed there is a blank fact file for students to pick their favourite player and complete accordingly. Next comes an English language task where students are asked to conduct a post-match interview with a player of their choice. Finally there is a puzzle page with riddles and a word-search. The answers are on the final sheet. There are a number of ways in which you can run this project: You could compile the workbooks beforehand and hand them out so that they are differentiated to each class members ability. You could hand out each page individually and then compile them at the end. My ideal would be that everyone gets a different sheet so that everyone is doing a different task within the same time frame and then they are compiled at the end. Any feedback, positive or negative, is greatly appreciated.
