Dulce et Decorum est - Language Devices and Context

Dulce et Decorum est - Language Devices and Context

This is a fun, engaging, and highly informative lesson/set of tasks on Wilfred Owen's war poem 'Dulce et Decorum est. This has been taught during an observation lesson where the teacher received an Outstanding judgement. It comes complete with: - Engaging and visual PowerPoint to guide students (and teacher!) through the lesson; - Colourful and thought-provoking worksheet for the main analysis task; - Lesson plan/ teacher guidance sheet, which goes through the lesson step-by-step; - Resources to enable the teacher to make 'flags' for the development task. As well as building students' knowledge of the text, they also learn crucial analysis and speaking and listening skills, in addition to using and applying key terminology. All pictures are licensed for commercial use, and image authors cited on the final slide.

In The News Visual Story Prompts - Creative writing prompt - Using your 5 senses to write a story

In The News Visual Story Prompts - Creative writing prompt - Using your 5 senses to write a story

This creative writing prompt helps the students to write about an event using all their senses. They write notes about what they imagine they would see, hear, touch, taste and feel in the picture they are looking at. They can then take these ideas and write a rich, vivid description. This is a perfect resource for boosting a students writing confidence before the KS1 SATs tests or the KS2 SATs tests. You could look at it directly as a presentation and discuss the different locations being shown in each of the photos. You could print off and laminate the photos to make an interesting, eye-catching set of story prompts. The students could also take five of the laminated photos and create them into a story . The photos could also be used as prompts for creative writing, factual writing or descriptive writing.

These 'Tweet Sheets' are useful for any point in the lesson when you want kids to summarise their learning in as few words as possible. My pupils love them because they are so bright and colourful. I have loaded them as an A3 sheet for printing in Publisher. For those of you who do not have Publisher, I have grouped, copied and pasted them onto PowerPoint slides for you to adapt for your own needs.

Rugby World Cup 2015 form activity book.

Rugby World Cup 2015 form activity book.

There are two resources here. The first is an activity book featuring a wide range of activities that encompass geography, history, literacy and numeracy. It's activities include art based tasks as well as creative writing and researching facts. One of the sheets looks like a duplicate but it isn't, it is a higher level sheet for the more able. You can hand out the sheets individually, compiling them at the end of the project or put them all together at the start to create a resource that students work through at their own pace. Included is a team generator on powerpoint which is operated by pressing play and then stopped and started with the 'S' key. This has been adapted from my previous resource on the FIFA World CUP which was downloaded 2703 times, had a 5 star rating and was selected by the TES team for their Secondary newsletter.
