Theories of Family - A Level Sociology AQA

Theories of Family - A Level Sociology AQA

This is a full lesson that includes all the activities, a lesson plan, differentiated material (both for weaker and stronger students) and helps go through content of theories of family in the context of an essay question. There’s plenty of assessment for learning throughout. This lesson was successfully deployed several times as a 20min mini teach (this is reflected in the lesson plan) but has been planned and produced as an entire lesson. The theories included are New Right, Feminism, Functionalism and Marxism. There’s information sheets and structured worksheets for note taking and there is also a university journal for gifted and talented students relevant to the material. This lesson is fully adaptable to fit all styles of teaching and can be scaled down for GCSE also. Please be sure to comment your opinion on the lesson.

Relationships and Conflict

Relationships and Conflict

Five PSHE lessons all with a focus on relationships and conflict. These lessons are perfect for covering the PSHE Association’s recommended guidance on domestic conflict, abusive relationships, managing relationships with family and friends and acquiring life-long conflict management skills. The five lesson packs are complete with at least one hour-long powerpoint, accompanying differentiated worksheets, clip links with questions, plenaries, clear LOs and starters. All are well differentiated to three levels throughout to enable clear evidence of progress for all students. These resources have been highly-rated individually by TES users, follow the same consistent format and are easy to follow. There is zero extra work required, although each lesson is still completely editable too. I use all of these myself as a Head of PSHE and Citizenship and I really hope you find them excellent value. Be nice - assembly

Be nice - assembly

“Be nice” assembly This assembly has been put together by a Head of Year/Pastoral Leader and is designed to be delivered to a whole year group/house or used within tutor time/dinnertime club, or after school club etc. Aims To remind students to “Work hard. Be nice”. (My favourite saying) A previous assembly (“Growth mindset”-which I will also post on TES shortly) focused on the “Work hard” part so you improve your intelligence and talents. This assembly focuses on the “Be nice” part so that we may enjoy stronger friendships and other healthy relationships. This assembly is based on 3 stories. There are morals to each story that can be explored to encourage students to: be nice to others, treat others how you want to be treat, take responsibility for your attitude to improve your experience of the world, and don’t let others decide how you will act or feel. (This is a concept used in my Life coaching called TFAR – Thoughts, Feelings, Actions, Results, and is explained to an appropriate depth in the notes within the PowerPoint on slide 6.) The assembly has 9 slides and no video clips, so no need to worry about your school internet letting you down! It will last 10-15minutes, depending on how much audience participation you encourage. The three stories to tell are wrote as a script in the notes at the bottom of the relevant slide. However, since the notes are not visible once you start the PowerPoint, for your convenience, I have also copied the stories onto slides 10, 11, 12 so you may print them off prior to the assembly to learn by heart, or, to read from during the assembly if you wish. This assembly forms a series of assemblies (10-15 in total- which I will be adding in the very near future) designed to build a positive year group identity, and to boost the resilience of the individual students. Kindest Regards Matthew Obee

Cinco de Mayo ESCAPE ROOM - Fun Facts, May 5th, Mexico, Battle of Puebla

Cinco de Mayo ESCAPE ROOM - Fun Facts, May 5th, Mexico, Battle of Puebla

The Cinco de Mayo Escape Room will take students on a secret mission around the classroom! This escape room has students decode interesting facts about the history of the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. This is the perfect resource to introduce the Battle of Puebla. The Cinco de Mayo Escape Room has students walking around the classroom breaking codes. Students are given a secret code name and sent on a secret mission to help Tonya share her Mexican culture. The codes include ciphers, Morse code, cryptograms and a final 4 digit code based on the decoders/clues. Each clue and code is different. The codes require students to think differently to decipher or decode them. Some codes require critical thinking to determine what a letter/symbol stands for. Each code will reveal interesting facts about Cinco de Mayo. The use of secret code will keep your students engaged while competing to find the final code. Students can report the final code to you. If you wanted to, you could purchase a 4 digit lock that you program, but it is not necessary at all! No props needed!! This is a NO PREP, PRINT & GO Activity! Students are sent on a “secret mission” and given a back story to ignite their active learning skills. They are given a code name which makes them feel as if they are part of the secret mission. Students practice hands-on, practical problem solving skills all while learning about Cinco de Mayo. Your students will be inspired to think outside the box! Spy themed music is highly recommended! The best age range for this resource is 8+. Please look at the preview to determine if this resource works for your age group. Younger students may need some help with some of the more difficult codes. You can use the pre-labeled clues or you can challenge older kids to choose/find the decoder that works for each of the clues. A set of labeled and non-labeled decoders are included for differentiation. A “How to Decode” puzzles is also included. In addition to learning or reinforcing the subject matter, my escape rooms encourage teamwork and critical thinking. As a “timed” challenge, students will be engaged from beginning to end. New Feature: This escape room now includes 12 fun, colorful signs to take class pictures with at the end of the mission. Signs include “Puzzle Master”, “She did all the work”, “Genius”, “We did it”, “I Escaped” and more! Hang the pictures in your room, send them in a parent newsletter or share them on social media  An answer key and easy to follow teacher directions are provided. Time needed: 30-60 minutes
