Japanese Gardens Literature & Composition

Japanese Gardens Literature & Composition

Here are six pieces of writing about Japanese Gardens, and six different writing assignments to go with them! Themes include: a general description, a master plans a garden, Haiku about gardens, three types of Japanese garden, ‘cleaning’ a tea garden, and Zen stone gardens. Writing assignments vary – from describing a beautiful place to writing a Haiku about nature, from planning sentences in your mind to summarizing what you’ve learned about stones in Zen gardens. An image of a Japanese painting of a miniature garden in a bowl is included to be used as decoration on the student’s notebook. Literature & Composition collections are suitable for students who are ready to read and study different types of literature in small quantities. For example, instead of an entire novel or scholarly work, a small sample of each (which can stand on its own) will be presented. This way, the intermediate student has an opportunity to stretch their reading abilities without being discouraged. Each book contains six different writing samples that share a common theme. The writing assignments vary in length and are intended to inspire the student to try writing in different forms and styles.

SICHUAN PROVINCE CHINA PART 4 - Why the new highway to Huanglong Valley was built

SICHUAN PROVINCE CHINA PART 4 - Why the new highway to Huanglong Valley was built

This unit is part 4 of a series with a focus on the mountainous area of northern Sichuan Province. It brings into focus the event that in 2008 caused considerable damage and loss of life. That was the May 12 Sichuan Earthquake. The details of cause and consequence are dealt with in greater detail in a PowerPoint entitled The Sichuan Earthquake of 2008. That unit will start at the park at the mountain pass between two valleys. This unit starts by moving to that same pass and observing what has been done to recover. It then takes you down to the world famous karst (limestone) terraces of the Huanglong Valley. The attachments in black and white and in colour are provided in PDF format so that hard copies can be provided. Enjoy the experience but watch out - legend has it that there had been a yellow dragon in the area.

SICHUAN PROVINCE CHINA - STORY 3 -YOU PROBABLY WILL NOT SEE A LIVE PANDA IN THE PARK

SICHUAN PROVINCE CHINA - STORY 3 -YOU PROBABLY WILL NOT SEE A LIVE PANDA IN THE PARK

Part 3 will take you to Jiuzhaigou in the valley of 9 villages. This World Heritage area has a series of spectacular lakes and waterfalls. In the past the area has been the natural habitat of giant pandas but now pandas are rarely seen. Popular with tourists - mainly Chinese - the Conservation Park has a policy of environment protection in order to achieve sustainability of the natural resources. There are pandas displayed on buses; remembered in lakes and existing in cast models in the garden area. However no pandas have been seen in the valleys and around the lakes where bamboos thrive. This unit will stand alone. It can be put with the other 3 titles of Sichuan Province.
