Estrangement: 30 Years to 30 Days: Seeds to Estrangement through Divorce

Estrangement: 30 Years to 30 Days: Seeds to Estrangement through Divorce

Approximately 90% of Estrangements from children are caused by spouses during a divorce. It has sadly become commonplace and a social issue pushed under the rug. 30 YEARS to 30 DAYS is a journey that echoes many divorces. A story of decay borne from family dysfunctions. Children estranged at the hand of the opposing parent. And of entrenched, often biased legal systems. These scenarios are not uncommon. But this book is uncommonly candid. Follow the twists of one woman’s unexpected fate. You will empathize with human frailties. Be at odds with morality issues. Become appalled at choices and amazed at heart wrenching decisions. Then wonder how a simple divorce can turn so bizarre. Reflective lessons abound should you face a similar quest. A MUST READ for every upcoming divorcee AND their adult children.

Students are asked to consider volunteering and doing something positive with their time once exams are over. An extract from Eleanor Morgan’s book “Anxiety for Beginners” is given and six plot ideas are given which relate to anxiety. Pupils are asked to select one of these to write about. Lastly students are asked to think about the saying “every cloud has a silver lining” and to share strategies for developing resilience. Suitable for ages 12+

KS1 Science 'Staying Alive' topic, sorting tasks / activities

Resources made for Science Week with a focus on ‘Staying Alive’. We learnt about the difference between living and non living things, that animals including humans grow from babies into adults, that some animals grow inside their mother while others hatch from an egg, children kept a food journal for later learning about a balanced diet. Before learning about basic needs, children attempted to complete a mind map, adding to this later. Living / Not Living / Never Lived sorting activity / workstation task What do you call a baby… table to complete 5 day food journal - table for students to complete (Monday to Friday) Egg or Mum? Sorting activity / workstation task - did this animal grow inside its mother or hatch from an egg? Human basic needs - male and female mind map activity, pupils to add what is essential for human life. Designed for KS1 / KS2 children with autism but also suitable for mainstream learners or older learners with SEN.

Video: Low Calorie Sweeteners - Discover the Truth

Video: Low Calorie Sweeteners - Discover the Truth

There is a lot of confusion about low calorie sweeteners (such as aspartame, saccharin or stevia) and about what products they are found in. Low calories sweeteners are ingredients that are added to foods and drinks to add a sweet taste, but with far fewer calories than sugar. They are used in a wide variety of foods and drinks like soft drinks, chewing gums, yogurts and puddings. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), the institution that is responsible for testing the safety of all additives, published a review on the safety of the low calorie sweetener aspartame. Following an in-depth evaluation of all available scientific evidence, EFSA’s draft opinion once again confirmed the safety of aspartame by concluding it is safe for all human population groups at current consumption (ADI) levels. This 23 minute video explores the basics about food, including: why we need food, where food originates (plants or animals), how food is made (raw ingredients to end products), what processing means (aside from being made in a factory), places where we eat (restaurants), foods and dishes made from different countries and how they are eaten (chop sticks, hands). The video includes a lot of interesting food related footage, including: different plants and animals, supermarkets and markets, raw ingredients (wheat), cooking, bread being produced in a factory. Throughout the video, primary aged children offer their thoughts and explanations on the topics covered, e.g. where food comes from, how it has been processed. Although produced in 1991 and some information and visuals are dated, this video would be a great opening for a food related topic in a primary school. Suggested audience - primary
