MEKONG RIVER STUDY PART 1 - LIFE ON AND AROUND THE CAI BE PORT IN VIETNAM

MEKONG RIVER STUDY PART 1 - LIFE ON AND AROUND THE CAI BE PORT IN VIETNAM

This unit has a focus on life around the port of Cai Be - Vietnam. This settlement depends on the water within the Mekong system. The water level varies during the year - being at its height when the Mekong has greater flow levels. The residents around the water's edge and those living in boats on the water adapt to the water conditions. Sample studies of a small scale family business are included because they represent the dozens of enterprises within the settlement. But Cai Be is also a tourist attraction. It is a destination for tourist companies bringing visitors from Ho Chi Minh City. Others reach the destination by taking side excursions off Mekong River Cruises. Take your students on a boat ride through the port. Find out how one small company uses the resources from the Mekong floodplain. Venture into the side channel and see the larger processing factories. The attachments provide an opportunity to distribute hard copies. This is part 1 of a series of studies on the Mekong River - a major river of South East Asia

THE ORIGIN -EXPANSION-ACHIEVEMENTS AND COLLAPSE OF THE KHMER EMPIRE OF CAMBODIA

THE ORIGIN -EXPANSION-ACHIEVEMENTS AND COLLAPSE OF THE KHMER EMPIRE OF CAMBODIA

Here is a resource with potentially a whole range of uses. It can stand alone as an investigation into "lost cities in the forest". It fits into medieval history and histories of Empires. It fits in with significant urban developments of the Middle Ages. It can be used in studies of World Heritage Sites - Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom (Bayon Temple). It touches themes of Hindu and Buddhist religions. In the investigation phase of the Angkor region it indicates the role of satellite imagery, scientific investigations of dendrochronology to link with climate change. Take your students into the forests north of Siem Reap Cambodia and they can be like the first foreign missionaries who ventured in an area on the strength of local stories of a lost civilisation. Discover the ruined temple of Ta Prohm (see the picture) and then follow the discoveries of the large urban complexes of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. Carefully selected photographs and maps will allow your students to see the scope and skill of the builders of the temples, canals, moats and bridges of the Angkor area. Enter Angkor Thom across the causeway and through the South Gate as the Chinese Zhou Daguan did centuries ago. Who was Zhou Daguan? Well he is part of the discovery. His worksheet and the question sheet are provided as attachments. This unit will enhance studies of Asian environment, history and culture.

Fake News! Developing Digital Critical Literacy with Kids! Possible Interactive Notebook Activity

Fake News! Developing Digital Critical Literacy with Kids! Possible Interactive Notebook Activity

The term FAKE News seems to be used a lot these days! April Fool's Day is a great opportunity to begin a discussion with students on FAKE and REAL news. Possible Interactive Notebook Activity. A recent survey found that many young people(and adults for that matter) can't seem to determine which is a real news story from a fake news story. We need to develop digital critical literacy with our students so they can try and determine the difference BEFORE they hit "send" to all their friends.

Interactive Music Symbols Games-Google Slides/Adobe Reader-Outdoor Adventures

Interactive Music Symbols Games-Google Slides/Adobe Reader-Outdoor Adventures

Outdoor Adventures -Music Symbols and Terms is an interactive Outdoor themed Music game designed for both Google Slides and Adobe Reader (PDF). It allows students go on a virtual adventure visiting different scenes to help the children with practicing their music skills and provide teachers an opportunity to assess students in the process. Students will learn about various woodland animals and outdoor activities in the process of practicing music skills. Students pick a person or animal while searching for forest friends. In the process, they get music questions to practice. When they get it correct, they learn an interesting fact about the animal or the activity pictured. This is a great back to school review activity or one to play any time during the year! It is a great way to integrate technology into the classroom and differentiate instruction. It also helps students (especially second language learners) develop language skills and vocabulary development. But, most importantly, it provides lots of fun while learning about Music! When designing this product, I was thinking of how my own students love to take turns playing games in my class. They can’t get enough of it and always want “another turn.” This product has plenty of opportunities for students to have several turns during one class, or over several class periods. This game can be projected for a class to play at once or used on an iPad or tablet for individual for small group/center play. It can be assigned through Google Classroom as a way to practice skills independently. It takes the place of flash cards! Each location is like a mini game It can be played over one or several class periods. LOTS of content here! I hope your students enjoy Outdoor Adventures Interactive Music Symbols and Terms Game as much as my students have! What’s included: Google Slides link and QR code Adobe PDF game Suggestions for Gameplay Scoring Sheets Score cards
